The adsorption properties of surface-modified mesoporous silica materials containing ?-cyclodextrin (CD ICS) were studied using two types of gas phase adsorbates (N2 and CH3Cl), along with a dye molecule (p-nitrophenol; PNP) in an aqueous solution. The CD ICS materials possess an ordered silica mesostructure framework that depends on the type of surfactant template and the level of loading of ?-CD. Incremental variations in the uptake of gas phase adsorbates and PNP from an aqueous solution were observed, according to the composition of CD ICS materials. For materials with similar CD loading, the surface area (SA) and pore volume doubled, as the surfactant from dodecylamine to hexadecylamine was varied. The SA of the CD ICS materials decreased by ca. 1.5-fold as the CD loading varied from 2% to 6%. The sorption capacity (Qe; mmol/g) of PNP increased from 61% to 84% as the CD loading increased from 2% to 6% and as the alkyl chain length of the surfactant template varied from C12 to C16. The adsorption properties of CD ICS materials with CH3Cl in the gas phase and for PNP in aqueous solution adopt a multi-layer adsorption profile, as described by the BET isotherm model.

Perkembangan teknologi membuat proses industrialisasi di wilayah DKI Jakarta dan seluruh Indonesia semakin cepat. Proses industrialisasi yang pesat memiliki dampak yang negatif yaitu terjadinya pencemaran terhadap air, laut, udara dan tanah. Pencemaran lingkungan salah satunya berupa pencemaran oleh logam berat seng (Zn). Selain limbah logam berat, Indonesia dengan produksi jagung sebanyak 19,6 juta ton berpotensi menghasilkan limbah tongkol jagung yang tidak memiliki nilai ekonomis. Berdasarkan kedua masalah tersebut, limbah berupa tongkol jagung dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku ekstraksi silika. Silika diekstraksi menggunakan larutan alkali dan larutan asam untuk membentuk xerogel. Karakterisasi yang digunakan yaitu X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Braun Emmet Teller (BET), Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) dan X-ray Fluorosence (XRF). Silika yang telah diekstraksi menghasilkan luas permukaan optimum sebesar 360,5 m2/g. Selanjutnya silika difungsionalisasi menggunakan CPTMS agar lebih aktif dan dapat digunakan sebagai material remediasi logam cair Zn. Proses fungsionalisasi menurunkan luas permukaan silika menjadi 301,8 m2/g. Meskipun demikian, berdasarkan uji serapan tembaga dengan AAS, silika CPTMS memiliki kemampuan adsorpsi yang lebih tinggi. ......Technological developments make the industrialization process in the DKI Jakarta region and throughout Indonesia even faster. The rapid industrialization process has a negative impact, namely the occurrence of pollution to water, sea, air and land. One of the environmental pollution is pollution by heavy metal zinc (Zn). On the other hand, Indonesia with corn production of 19,6 million tons has the potential to produce corn hump waste that has no economic value. Based on these two problems, corn cobs are used as raw material for silica synthesis. Silica is synthesized using an alkaline solution and an acid solution to form xerogel. Characterization used was X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Braun Emmet Teller (BET), Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) and X-ray Fluorence (XRF). The synthesized silica produces an optimum surface area of 360,5 m2/g. Furthermore, silica functionalized using CPTMS to be more active and can be used as Zn liquid metal remediation material. The functionalization process reduced the silica surface area to 301,8 m2/g. However, based on copper absorption tests with AAS, silica CPTMS has a higher adsorption ability.
