"Perkembangan teknologi komunikasi berpengaruh terhadap perubahan perilaku individu. Determinisasi teknologi tanpa disadari telah membuat manusia sangat bergantung terhadap teknologi. Pola komunikasi dari zaman ke zaman mengalami perubahan dengan hadirnya teknologi, salah satu contohnya adalah pengunaan KakaoTalk yang merupakan aplikasi mobile instant messenger dengan pengguna paling banyak di Korea. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana peran aplikasi mobile instant messenger terhadap perubahan pola komunikasi pada masyarakat Korea. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik survei menggunakan kuesioner. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perkembangan teknologi telah membawa perubahan dalam pola komunikasi. Perubahan yang terjadi itu memiliki dampak positif dan negatif. Dampak positif yang muncul, seperti komunikasi menjadi lebih mudah, dan meningkatkan efisiensi serta produktivitas individu. Sedangkan, dampak negatifnya telah terjadi pergeseran pola komunikasi seperti, hilangnya komunikasi interpersonal dan ketergantungan terhadap teknologi. Terkait penggunaan teknologi mobile instant messenger, aplikasi KakaoTalk sangat berperan penting dalam berkomunikasi di Korea karena sebagian besar orang Korea menggunakan aplikasi ini untuk berkomunikasi sehari-hari.
The development of communication technology affects changes in individual behaviour. Technology Determinism unconsciously makes human being very dependent on technology. Communication, from age to age, changes the presence of technology, and one of the examples is KakaoTalk, which is the most-used instant messenger in Korea. The research question of this paper is how the role of the mobile instant messenger in changing the communication pattern of the South Korean people. The research method used in this writing is a descriptive qualitative method which uses a questionnaire survey. The result found that the existence of the development of technology creates changes in communication. The changes are divided into positive and negative impacts. The positive effect of communications technology was more accessible, as well as increasing efficiency and productivity. Meanwhile, the negative impact was the shift of communication, such as the loss of interpersonal communication and dependence on technology. Related to the use of mobile technology, KakaoTalk takes a significant role in South Korea`s communication because most of the Korean people use KakaoTalk for daily communication."
