"Artikel ini mengangkat topik mengenai representasi dalam musik, terutama dalam contoh fenomena rastafari dan musik reggae. Dalam pandangan Stuart Hall, representasi terbagi menjadi tiga cara, yaitu reflective, intentional, dan constructionist. Pembeda dari ketiga pendekatan ini adalah proses representasinya, yang mana nantinya di akhir akan menghasilkan kesimpulan yang berbeda-beda. Secara khusus, permasalah representasi musik dalam artikel ini berfokus pada pendekatan constructionist. Data dalam artikel ini dikumpulkan melalui metode penelusuran data pustaka dan dianalisis dengan pendekatan teori representasi dari Stuart Hall. Beberapa teori representasi dalam musik pun digunakan untuk memperkuat argumentasi penulisan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa musik mampu menghadirkan satu representasi seperti yang digambarkan dalam musik reggae, yang menghadirkan representasi rastafari.

This article raises the topic of representation in music, especially in the examples of Rastafari phenomena and reggae music. In Stuart Hall's view, representation is divided into three ways, namely reflective, intentional, and constructionist. The differentiator of the three approaches is the process of representation, which in the end will produce different conclusions. Specifically, the problem of music representation in this article focuses on the constructionist approach. The data in this article was collected through a library data search method and analyzed with the representation theory approach from Stuart Hall. Some representation theories in music are also used to strengthen the argumentation of writing. The analysis shows that music is able to present one representation as depicted in reggae music, which presents Rastafari representation."

"Skripsi ini mengangkat tema representasi abad pertengahan dalam karya-karya Faun. Faun adalah band asal Jerman beraliran Pagan-Folk yang banyak menampilkan tema dan suasana abad pertengahan dalam karya-karya mereka, yang membuat mereka berbeda dari musisi-musisi pop Jerman lainnya. Analisis secara deskriptif dan argumentatif menggunakan metode studi pustaka terhadap karya-karya mereka dalam album Von den Elben (Deluxe Edition) menghasilkan bentuk representasi abad pertengahan yang sangat berbeda dengan abad pertengahan yang tercatat dalam sejarah, yang bercirikan dominasi gereja dan bangsawan. Abad pertengahan yang direpresentasikan oleh Faun menggambarkan masa yang identik dengan masyarakat pagan Eropa, yaitu masyarakat nonkristen yang masih memegang tradisi, percaya akan mitos-mitos, dan dekat dengan alam. Representasi tersebut membentuk identitas budaya Faun sebagai penganut nilai-nilai paganisme yang berseberangan dengan institusi gereja.

This thesis placed its focus on the representation of medieval era in Faun's works. Faun is a German Pagan-Folk band which often features medieval themes and atmosphere in their works, which makes them different from other German pop musicians. Descriptive and argumentative analysis on their works in their latest album, Von den Elben (Deluxe Edition), showed that their representations of medieval era is very different from the medieval times recorded by the historical sources, which is characterized by the dominance of the church and nobility. The medieval era is represented by Faun as an era identical to European pagan society, which refers to the people in Middle Ages who had not been christened, still hold their old tradition, believe in myths and live close to nature. This representation shaped Faun's cultural identity as followers of paganism values who stand in opposition to the church."
