"Artikel ini membahas unsur kritik sosial yang terkandung dalam novel satir berjudul 吾輩は猫である/Wagahai wa Neko dearu/Saya Kucing karya Natsume Soseki. Soseki memberikan gambaran kondisi masyarakat pada masa Restorasi Meiji dan pandangannya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penulisan artikel ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan deskriptif analitis. Tujuan penulisan artikel ini adalah untuk mengetahui kritik Natsume Soseki terhadap kondisi sosial pada saat itu yang terkandung dalam novel Wagahai wa Neko dearu.

The focus of this article is the social critics from a satire novel by Natsume Soseki entitled Wagahai wa Neko dearu I Am A Cat. Soseki described Japanese community in Meiji Restoration era and his viewpoint about the social phenomenon. This article is using qualitative method with analytical descriptive. The purpose of this article is to understand Natsume Soseki rsquo s critics upon social condition from that time that is described in the novel."

"Skripsi ini menganalisis performa naratif di dalam novel Wagahai wa neko de aru karya Natsume S?seki. Skripsi ini didasarkan pada konsep tuturan performatif dari teori tindak tutur yang dikemukakan oleh John Austin. Konsep tersebut diterapkan ke dalam ranah susastra dengan menekankan pada kontektualitasnya. Penelitian kualitatif ini melihat konten novel tersebut sebagai suatu performa naratif yang dilakukan oleh narator wagahai. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa narasi yang disampaikan oleh wagahai dibatasi dan dibentuk oleh konteks situasi saat penarasian berlangsung. Dengan demikian, narasi wagahai dapat dilihat sebagai produk dari interaksi antara narator dengan tokoh-tokoh lain, dengan pembaca atau dengan dirinya sendiri.

This research observes narrative performance in Natsume S seki's Wagahai wa neko de aru. This research was compiled using the concept of performative utterance of John Austin's speech act theory. The concept was applied into literature framework by highlighting the context boundedness of the text. This qualitative research sees the content of the novel as a narrative performance conducted by narrator wagahai. The analysis shows how the narrative told by wagahai is limited and shaped by the context. Therefore, wagahai's narrative could be seen as a product of interaction between narrator and the other characters, the readers or the narrator himself."
