Mattheij, Robert M.M.
Abstrak :
In order to emphasize the relationships and cohesion between analytical and numerical techniques, Ordinary Differential Equations in Theory and Practice presents a comprehensive and integrated treatment of both aspects in combination with the modeling of relevant problem classes. This text is uniquely geared to provide enough insight into qualitative aspects of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) to offer a thorough account of quantitative methods for approximating solutions numerically, and to acquaint the reader with mathematical modeling, where such ODEs often play a significant role. Although originally published in 1995, the text remains timely and useful to a wide audience. It provides a thorough introduction to ODEs, since it treats not only standard aspects such as existence, uniqueness, stability, one-step methods, multistep methods, and singular perturbations, but also chaotic systems, differential-algebraic systems, and boundary value problems. The authors aim to show the use of ODEs in real life problems, so there is an extended chapter in which not only the general concepts of mathematical modeling but also illustrative examples from various fields are presented. A chapter on classical mechanics makes the book self-contained.

Abstrak :
This textbook gives an early presentation of the Laplace transform, which is then used to motivate and develop many of the remaining differential equation concepts. These topics include, first order differential equations, general linear differential equations with constant coefficients, second order linear differential equations with variable coefficients, power series methods, and linear systems of differential equations. It is assumed that the reader has had the equivalent of a one-year course in college calculus.

Abstrak :
Numerical Analysis explores computational methods for problems arising in the areas of classical analysis, approximation theory, and ordinary differential equations, among others. Topics included in the book are presented with a view toward stressing basic principles and maintaining simplicity and teachability as far as possible, while subjects requiring a higher level of technicality are referenced in detailed bibliographic notes at the end of each chapter.

Abstrak :
This book offers a thorough, concise, and rigorous treatment of the essential aspects of the theory of integral equations. Includes nearly 300 exercises specifically constructed to enhance the understanding of both routine and challenging concepts. Included in the presentation are, a section entitled Tools of the Trade at the beginning of each chapter, providing necessary background information for comprehension of the results presented in that chapter, thorough discussions of the analytical methods used to solve many types of integral equations, an introduction to the numerical methods that are commonly used to produce approximate solutions to integral equations, over 80 illustrative examples that are explained in meticulous detail, nearly 300 exercises specifically constructed to enhance the understanding of both routine and challenging concepts, and guides to computation to assist the student with particularly complicated algorithmic procedures.

Abstrak :
Fractal-based methods are at the heart of modeling the behavior of phenomena at varying scales. This volume collates techniques for using IFS fractals, including the very latest cutting-edge methods, from more than 20 years of research in this area. The second chapter on basic iterated function systems theory is designed to be used as the basis for a course and includes many exercises. This chapter, along with the three background appendices on topological and metric spaces, measure theory, and basic results from set-valued analysis, make the book suitable for self-study or as a source book for a graduate course. The other chapters illustrate many extensions and applications of fractal-based methods to different areas.

Inverse limits with set-valued functions are quickly becoming a popular topic of research due to their potential applications in dynamical systems and economics. This brief provides a concise introduction dedicated specifically to such inverse limits. The theory is presented along with detailed examples which form the distinguishing feature of this work. The major differences between the theory of inverse limits with mappings and the theory with set-valued functions are featured prominently in this book in a positive light.
