Abstrak :
This book constitutes the proceedings of the First Indo-Japanese conference on Perception and Machine Intelligence, PerMIn 2012, held in Kolkata, India, in January 2012. The 41 papers, presented together with 1 keynote paper and 3 plenary papers, were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the book. The papers are organized in topical sections named perception; human-computer interaction; e-nose and e-tongue; machine intelligence and application; image and video processing; and speech and signal processing.

Abstrak :
This chapter describes some advances in modern pattern classification techniques, and new classes of information systems dedicated for image analysis, interpretation and semantic classification. In this book we present some new solutions for the development of modern pattern recognition techniques for processing and analysis of several classes of visual patterns, as well as some theoretical foundations for modern pattern interpretation approaches. In particular this monograph presents selected areas of application of pattern recognition and classification approaches including handwriting recognition, medical image analysis and interpretation, development of cognitive systems for image computer understanding, moving object detection, advanced image filtration and intelligent multi-object labeling and classification.

Abstrak :
The purpose of this book is to present a methodology for designing and tuning fuzzy expert systems in order to identify nonlinear objects; that is, to build input-output models using expert and experimental information. The results of these identifications are used for direct and inverse fuzzy evidence in forecasting and diagnosis problem solving. The book is organised as follows : Chapter 1 presents the basic knowledge about fuzzy sets, genetic algorithms and neural nets necessary for a clear understanding of the rest of this book. Chapter 2 analyzes direct fuzzy inference based on fuzzy if-then rules. Chapter 3 is devoted to the tuning of fuzzy rules for direct inference using genetic algorithms and neural nets. Chapter 4 presents models and algorithms for extracting fuzzy rules from experimental data. Chapter 5 describes a method for solving fuzzy logic equations necessary for the inverse fuzzy inference in diagnostic systems. Chapters 6 and 7 are devoted to inverse fuzzy inference based on fuzzy relations and fuzzy rules. Chapter 8 presents a method for extracting fuzzy relations from data. All the algorithms presented in Chapters 2-8 are validated by computer experiments and illustrated by solving medical and technical forecasting and diagnosis problems. Finally, Chapter 9 includes applications of the proposed methodology in dynamic and inventory control systems, prediction of results of football games, decision making in road accident investigations, project management and reliability analysis.

Abstrak :
The book assumes no prior background in geometric control theory. The book also adopts a tutorial style by way of examples that illustrate the geometric and abstract algebra concepts used in linear geometric control. In addition, the matrix calculations required for the studied control synthesis problems of linear multivariable control are illustrated via a set of running design examples. As such, some of the design examples are of higher dimension than one may typically see in a text.

Abstrak :
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Pattern Recognition in Bioinformatics, PRIB 2012, held in Tokyo, Japan, in November 2012. The 24 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 33 submissions. Their topics are widely ranging from fundamental techniques, sequence analysis to biological network analysis. The papers are organized in topical sections on generic methods, visualization, image analysis, and platforms, applications of pattern recognition techniques, protein structure and docking, complex data analysis, and sequence analysis.

Abstrak :
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third Workshop on Human Behavior Understanding, HBU 2012, held in Vilamoura, Portugal, in October 2012. The 14 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 31 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on sensing human behavior, social and affective signals, human-robot interaction, imitation and learning from demonstration.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Chinese Conference on Pattern Recognition, CCPR 2012, held in Beijing, China, in September 2012. The 82 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 137 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on pattern recognition theory, computer vision, biometric recognition, medical imaging, image and video analysis, document analysis, speech processing, and natural language processing and information retrieval.

Abstrak :
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th INNS IAPR TC3 GIRPR International Workshop on Artificial Neural Networks in Pattern Recognition, ANNPR 2012, held in Trento, Italy, in September 2012. The 21 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this volume. They cover a large range of topics in the field of neural network- and machine learning-based pattern recognition presenting and discussing the latest research, results, and ideas in these areas.

Abstrak :
The 27 revised full papers and 23 revised poster papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 98 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on segmentation, low-level vision, 3D reconstruction, recognition, applications, learning, and features.
