"Skripsi ini membahas peranan PELNI dalam perkembangan pelayaran nusantara pada 1969 - 1998. PELNI adalah salah satu Badan Usaha Milik Negara (BUMN) yang beroperasi dalam transportasi laut. Negara berperan dalam keberlangsungan PELNI. Perhatian negara atas PELNI memperlihatkan bagaimana perhatian negara dalam membangun perhubungan lautnya. Pada masa Orde Baru, PELNI berubah status menjadi Persero yang diharuskan menargetkan keuntungan dan membawa misi pemerintah. Hasil Penelitian ini adalah PELNI yang menjadi kurang efektif memenuhi kedua targetnya karena terkadang dua kepentingan itu saling berbenturan.

This thesis discusses the role of PELNI in development nusantara shipping in 1969 - 1998. PELNI is one of the State-Owned Enterprises (Badan Usaha Milik Negara) operating in the marine transportation. As State-Owned Enterprises, the state plays a role in sustainability of PELNI. Concern of the state over PELNI shows how the nation's attention in establish sea transportation. During the New Order, PELNI changed it?s status to be Persero that required to bring the government mission and profits target. The results of this study are PELNI become less effective to accomplish both target because sometimes that both interest collide."
