Abstrak :
This study aims at examining the historicity of petik laut (a maritime tradition) as part of the local genius of cultural hybridization between Islam and ancestral beliefs. Sense of belonging possessed by the Puger community has become the start of the foundation of a multicultural society in the community. This multicultural spirit eventually strengthens nationalism in the country. The methods used in this historical study are respectively (1) heuristics, namely the collection of data through observations, library research, in depth interviews with related parties, (2) criticism, namely internal criticism through the testimony of fishermen and the juru kunci (ritual leader) of the Larung Sesaji tradition in Puger, and external criticism through lecturers and cultural experts, (3) interpretation, explanation of verified data, (4) historiography, namely writing history. The results of the study revealed that a series of maritime ritual is a blend of Islam and animistic traditions. The purpose and objective of the various maritime rituals are usually the same, that is, to ask Gods blessings so that the fishermen will be provided with abundant fish and will be freed from any disaster when fishing. Most of fishing communities believe that the sea is guarded by supernatural beings. In a policentric society, every single maritime ritual is a solidarity making event.

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh ketertarikan peneliti akan maraknya konflik masyarakat yang terjadi di Indonesia pasca lengsernya rezim Orde Baru dan bagaimana pola pemberitaannya. Konflik yang terjadi di Desa Puger Kulon, Jawa Timur pada bulan September 2013 diberitakan oleh beberapa media tanah air. Media menyebutnya sebagai konflik Puger, tidak terkecuali dalam media online. Pemberitaan konflik tentu dianggap lebih menarik daripada berita mengenai kondisi yang harmonis. Media juga tentunya bisa memberitakan satu peristiwa yang sama secara berbeda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat framing konflik Puger dalam pemberitaan media online Republika dan Surya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, paradigma konstruktivisme, dan teknik analisis framing dari Robert Entman. Republika Online mengkonstruk peristiwa konflik Puger sebagai konflik antara Sunni─Syiah. Sementara itu, Surya Online justru terlihat kontras dengan mengkonstruk bahwa sama seperti konflik-konflik pada umumnya di Indonesia, konflik Puger adalah konflik kepentingan antar elit karena adanya kecemburuan sosial. Ada sejumlah faktor yang mempengaruhi isi media yang tersusun secara hierarkis mulai dari faktor ideologis dan makrosistem lainnya hingga karakteristik individu pekerja media.

The background of this research came from the interest of the researcher to some conflicts happened in Indonesia after the end of Orde Baru regime and how their news pattern. Puger Kulon, East Java was one of conflict at September 2013 that reported by some media in Indonesia as conflict of Puger, included on online media. The news of conflict would be considered more interesting than the news about harmonious condition. One event could be reported differently among the media. This research wanted to see framing of Puger conflict on online media Republika and Surya. This research used qualitative approache, constructivism paradigm, and framing analysis from Robert Entman. Republika Online constructed conflict in Puger as a religion conflict between Sunni and Syiah. While Surya Online constructed Puger as general conflict in Indonesia, due to social jealousy among the elites. There is a hierarci’s factor that influences the media content; from ideology, macrosystem to individual characteristic of media worker.
