"ABSTRAKDalam artikel ini dibahas reader-response pembaca dewasa atas buku cerita anak Strijd overzee karya Joke de Jonge 2009 dari ranah sastra Hindia-Belanda. Metode deskriptif kualitatif digunakan untuk menganalisis cerita dan unsur-unsur intrinsik cerita dalam buku tersebut. Selanjutnya ditelisik reader-response pembaca dewasa, yang merupakan reaksi timbal balik terhadap buku tersebut. Hindia-Belanda digambarkan sebagai negeri yang eksotis, bagian dari koloni Belanda, juga dihuni oleh orang-orang yang tidak dapat dipercayai. Gambaran ini identik dengan lsquo;pemahaman rsquo; pembaca dewasa yang memiliki lebih banyak pengetahuan tentang Hindia-Belanda. Respon dan ketertarikan pembaca dewasa ini ditemukan dalam beberapa situs forum berbahasa Belanda yang bertemakan nostalgia atas sejarah dan budaya Indis. Buku ini diterima dengan baik oleh pembaca dewasa alih-alih pembaca anak.Kata kunci: cerita anak, sastra Hindia-Belanda, reader-response.

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research is to describe adult rsquo s reader response to Strijd overzee by Joke de Jonge 2009 from the field of Dutch East Indies literature. This research is using descriptive qualitative method to analyse the intrinsic elements. Then, adult rsquo s reader response is further examined to see how adults react to the content of the book. Dutch East Indies is represented as an exotic country, part of Dutch colony, and occupied by untrusted people. Those representations are identic with the lsquo comprehension rsquo of adult readers who has more knowledge about Dutch East Indies. Those responses and interests are found in a few f orum sites concerning the history and culture of Indo. "Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tanggapan pembaca terhadap penyimpangan morfologis yang ditemukan dalam The Wreck of the Deutschland, sebuah puisi karya Gerald Manley Hopkins dari era Victoria. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran. Metode kuantitatif digunakan untuk mengukur persepsi dan pemahaman pembaca terhadap kata-kata yang mengandung penyimpangan morfologis, dan metode kualitatif digunakan untuk memberikan informasi yang lebih rinci tentang persepsi dan pemahaman mereka. Teori David Bleich digunakan untuk menganalisis tanggapan dari tiga perspektif, yaitu tanggapan spontan pembaca terhadap teks yang mereka baca, pemikiran dan perasaan pembaca yang lebih dalam tentang kata-kata yang menyimpang secara morfologis, dan refleksi lebih lanjut pembaca terhadap keseluruhan teks. Tiga puluh satu mahasiswa semester 5 dan 7 jurusan sastra Inggris mengambil bagian dalam penelitian ini sebagai responden. Studi ini mengungkapkan bahwa mayoritas responden bingung dengan teks yang mereka baca. Mereka mencoba memecahkan kode arti dari kata-kata yang tidak dikenal dengan melihat struktur internal kata-kata tersebut, tetapi mereka hanya bisa berspekulasi tentang arti harfiah dari kata-kata tersebut. Faktanya, salah satu dari empat kata yang menyimpang secara morfologis dibiarkan tidak ditafsirkan. Meskipun beberapa responden merefleksikan secara positif teks yang mereka baca, lebih banyak responden yang memiliki refleksi negatif.

This study aims to discover the readers’ responses to the morphological deviation found in The Wreck of the Deutschland, a poem by Gerald Manley Hopkins from the Victorian era. The study uses a mixed method. The quantitative method is used to gauge the readers’ perception and understanding of the words that contain morphological deviation, and the qualitative method is used to provide more detailed information about their perception and understanding. David Bleich’s theory is used to analyze the responses from three perspectives, i.e., the readers’ spontaneous responses to the text they read, the readers’ deeper thoughts and feelings about the morphologically deviated words, and the readers’ further reflection on the overall text. Thirty-one university students of the 5th and 7th semesters majoring in English literature took part in this study as the respondents. The study reveals that the majority of the respondents are puzzled by the text they read. They try to decode the meanings of the unfamiliar words by looking at the internal structure of the words, but they could only speculate on the literal meanings of the words. In fact, one of the four morphologically deviated words is left uninterpreted. Although some respondents reflect positively on the text their read, a greater number of respondents have negative reflections."
