"ABSTRACT
The guidelines for selecting the appropriate surface acquisition method are created for capturing the geometric shape of small objects ( less than 5 cm height) that contains minor details such as small depth difference on the area of interest. Scanning (3D laser scanner) and non-scanning (a mobile phone camera) techniques were applied in this study. The results are compared using both qualitative and quantitative measurements. The non-scanning technique by a mobile phone camera is almost 80 times less expensive than the 3D laser scan while generating similar 3D models with acceptable accuracy within 1.5 mm of the master object and within 1 mm error between the two methods. The average total time used in the non-scanning is less than half of the scanning one. Detail of small depth differences on the area of interest is better captured by non-scanning one with the application of the proposed guidelines. General capabilities and limitations of both techniques, such as the object surface types, color, surface preparation and symmetry that can affect the resulting 3D model of both acquisition methods are also discussed and tabulated."

Analysis technology of X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) has limitations in detecting and generating the accuracy of data by the XRD equipment. This is due to the differences in any measurements parameter used by the XRD equipment. To get the accurate results in detecting, the XRD equipment must first know the properties of the crystalline and amorphous materials then choose the measurement parameter of the scan technique and time per step.
This research aim to investigate the characteristic of XRD Equipment used in the laboratory of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Universitas Indonesia through the variation of the measurements parameter of the XRD equipment are continuous scanning technique and step scanning technique uses a time per step one second and two seconds on the sample of pure alumina powder, pure talc, and mixing with addition grading of talc 1.0%, 2.0%, 3.0%, and 4.0% in alumina.
These results indicate that the step scanning technique with time per step two seconds produces the highest intensity, at 5084, 4977, 4931, 4877, 4816 count to grading of alumina 100%, 99%, 98%, 97%, 96%, and at 466, 459, 617, 1067 count to grading of talc 1.0%, 2.0%, 3.0%, 4.0%, compared to other parameters and properties of crystalline materials using step scanning technique with time per step two seconds there was a strengthening background and peak.
