"This research is conducted to answer questions surrounding social phenomenon of reading books as a consumptive lifestyle and its relation to political economy studies of the mass media consumption as system of significations. Jean Baudrillard's theory on consumer society and his critic of the political economy of the sign are two important works upon which the theoritical foundation of this research was based. This is a qualitative research rooted in critical tradition with social constructionism as its strategy. Finding in this research is collected through in-dept interview and participatory observation and analyzed through qualitative comparative analysis. The findings reveal that books consumption (especially imported books) have higher degree of prestige than other media as it manifests into consumptive lifestyle of "positional goods" upon which upper class can enjoy only if others from lower class do not; therefore defining their superior social status."

"ABSTRAKPenulisan karya akhir ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana peristiwa kabut asap dikonstruksikan sebagai kejahatan lingkungan dalam media online kompas.com. Dengan menggunakan teori social constructionism, penulis mengkaji proses konstruksi atas realita sosial peristiwa kabut asap dalam pemberitaan di dalam media. Perspektif green criminology digunakan sebagai payung besar penulisan ini. Data sekunder dikumpulkan dari pemberitaan kabut asap di media online kompas.com selama tahun 2015. Hasil dari penulisan ini adalah kompas.com mengkonstruksikan kabut asap sebagai kejahatan lingkungan dengan melihat dari konstruksi dominannya.

ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine how the haze episode is constructed as an environmental crime in the online media kompas.com. By using Ray Surette’s social constructionism theory, the author examines the process of social construction of reality of haze episode in the news. Green criminology perspective used as a large umbrella of this study. Secondary data in this study is the news about haze that was collected from kompas.com during 2015. The result of this study is kompas.com has constructed haze as an environmental crime with a view of the dominant construction."

"Sistem peradilan pidana di Indonesia adalah landasan hukum yang mengatur proses penegakan hukum terhadap pelanggaran pidana. Hal ini direpresentasikan melalui sebuah film dokumenter Ice Cold yang menggambarkan proses peradilan pidana terhadap Jessica Kumala Wongso atas kasus pembunuhan penggunaan racun sianida. Studi kasus kriminologi visual terhadap film ini dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data tangkapan layar dan dibahas menggunakan pemikiran konstruksionisme sosial oleh Surette. Analisis dengan metode visual yang dilakukan dalam tulisan ini mengkaji penggambaran partisipan dan prosedur hukum acara pidana dalam rangkaian proses peradilan pidana. Melalui analisis visual terhadap film dokumenter ini ditemukan perbedaan yang terjadi dalam konteks peradilan pidana tersebut dibandingkan dengan praktik sistem peradilan pidana pada umumnya.

The criminal justice system in Indonesia serves as the legal framework regulating the enforcement of laws against criminal offenses. This is exemplified in the documentary film Ice Cold, which portrays the criminal justice proceedings involving Jessica Kumala Wongso in the cyanide murder case. A visual criminology case study of this film was conducted by collecting screenshot data and discussing it through the lens of Surette's social constructionism. The visual analysis in this study examines the depiction of participants and procedures within the criminal justice process as presented in the documentary. This analysis reveals significant differences between the portrayed criminal justice processes and the general practices within Indonesia's criminal justice system."
