This study aims to estimate the effect of agglomeration externalities in the form of knowledge spillovers (MAR / specialization, Jacobs / diversity, and Porter / competition) and human capital externalities on employment growth based on the level of technological intensity in the industry and estimating the effect of human capital on increasing the influence of knowledge spillovers . This research uses ISIC 2-digit manufacturing industry in districts and cities throughout Indonesia in 2010 and 2015, using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. The estimation results show that specialization has a negative impact on employment growth while diversity has a positive effect but is not significant at all levels of industrial technology intensity. There are differences in the impact of competition and human capital based on the intensity of technology in the industry. Human capital can resist the negative impact of competition and reduce the positive impact of diversity on employment growth."

Prior studies observing the impact of FDI on local wages showed inconsistent results. This study examines the impact of FDI presenting by MNCs wage spillovers on labour wages in local manufacture firms in Indonesia. We used micro panel data from 2007 to 2013 and the analysis utilizes empirical models used in the literature on the key-industry hypothesis. We also observed the long term effect using delta method. The analysis shows that the existance of MNCs give positive effect on labour wages in local firms. The effect inflicted on long term is lower than it is on short term."

ABSTRACT

This paper is intended to identify and argue that Firms R&D spillovers are present in Manufacturing Sectors in Indonesia and demonstrate empirically the primary channel of R&D spillovers is via trade. This paper develop the concept that regarding the presence of R&D spillovers, a firm can have potential benefit in the form of TFP growth . The results show that there are R&D spillovers in which Firms can benefit to and the main channel for spillovers between manufacturing sectors is via trade."

"There has been increasing role of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in developing countries since the 1980s. Interestingly, FDI is not only expected to bring direct effects, but also indirect effects or "spillovers" to a hosti economy. This paper aims to investigate FDI spillovers in the Indonesia's chemical industry, whether domestic firms benefit or not from foreign invesment. A stochastic production frontier approach is adopted to a firm level panel data for the periode of 1998-2000. There are three important findings. First, there is a clear hierarchy of technical efficiency of chemical firms based on their ownership status. Foreign owned firms have the highest level of technical efficiency, followed by joint ventures and domestic firms. Second, even though this paper confirms positive spillovers in the industry, the magnitude is relatively small. It shows that the Indonesian chemical industry has not yet been able to take full advantage of foreign presence. Third, a wider technology gap between domestic and foreign firms results in a higher spillovers. Findings of this paper imply that more FDI inflow into the Indonesia's chemical industry may benefit the industry. However, understanding the process of how the foreign presence affects domestic firms is important to take full advantage of the foreign presence."

Despite growing concern regarding the productivity benefits of foreign direct investment (FDI), few studies have been conducted on the impact of FDI spillovers on domestic firms' labor productivity in Indonesia. Micro-level panel data covering about 20,000 medium and large manufacturing establishments in each year over the period 2010 and 2014 was employed. This study aims to do three things. First, it examines the effect of FDI spillovers on domestic firms' productivity. It divides FDI spillovers into horizontal and backward. Second, it investigates the short-term and long-term effects of FDI spillovers on domestic firms' productivity. Third, it explores the impact of FDI spillovers on domestic firms' productivity in different groups of industries based on factor intensity. This study suggests that, within the same industry, horizontal spillovers are associated with domestic firms' productivity: this relationship is negative in the short-term but positive in the long-term. This study's findings also demonstrate that, across industries, there are negative backward spillover effects on domestic firms' productivity. In addition, this study points out that FDI spillovers affect domestic firms' productivity effectively when they are capital-intensive."

......Initiated primarily due to concerns related to human trafficking and moral issues, there is a notable paucity of empirical data regarding the local economic impacts of these closures. Employing a difference-in-differences methodology that accounts for staggered shutdown timelines, the study finds that the overall economic impact of localisations in Surabaya is not statistically significant. However, it is noteworthy that during shutdown phase 1, localisations had a positive and statistically significant effect on local economic activities, a trend which subsided in later phases. Additionally, the application of spatial analysis techniques yielded more robust and significant results, highlighting the intricate and multifaceted economic implications associated with localisation policies."

......This research aims to analyze the impact of Global Value Chain (GVC) participation on the productivity of manufacturing companies in Indonesia. GVC participation is measured through international trade activities (export, import, or both) of the companies. The Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method is employed for the analysis, utilizing cross-sectional data from IBS and TiVA for the year 2017. The findings reveal that companies actively involved in international trade exhibit higher productivity compared to those not engaged in any international activities. Additionally, companies with dominant backward participation in the GVC demonstrate higher productivity than those with dominant forward participation. These findings support previous research indicating the influence of knowledge spillover, access to affordable and diverse input, and product standardization as an impact from GVC participation."
