Media in each Southeast Asian country operates differently due to a number of factors such as economics, politics, social, and culture, which eventually lead to different levels of press freedom in each Southeast Asian country. The aim of this research is to investigate persuasion strategies in editorials of selected English-language media in Southeast Asia. To achieve this goal, the researcher examined the organizational structure of the editorial text genres of The Jakarta Post (Indonesia), Bangkok Post (Thailand), and New Straits Times (Malaysia) and examined the pattern of selecting types of attitudes in each of the three selected media. The persuasion strategies used by Southeast Asian media were explored using genre analysis for media discourse (Iedema, et al., 1994) and appraisal framework specifically the sub-system attitude (Martin dan White, 2005). The results of the analysis show that the genre adopted by The Jakarta Post, Bangkok Post, and New Straits Times is media exposition with the organizational structure involving Thesis^Argument^Reiteration of Thesis. This structure shows that the three media tend to be explicit in showing a pro or con position on an issue since they persuade the readers by focusing on explaining one point of view without offering another. Meanwhile, the patterns of choosing the type of attitude found in the three media tend to be different. The Jakarta Post tends to focus explicitly on negatively assessing events, objects and phenomena when discussing issues related to government in Indonesia. This can be seen from the pattern of using negative inscribed appreciation in editorials that discuss domestic problems. The Bangkok Post tends to involve implicit negative judgments regarding the behavior of actors involved, especially from the government when discussing domestic issues. This strategy is demonstrated through the pattern of using invoked negative judgment found in Bangkok Post editorials discussing issues within the country. The New Straits Times tends to implicitly judge someone's behavior negatively when discussing issues related to certain race. This can be seen from the pattern of using invoked negative judgment in texts with topics related to a community of a race in Malaysia."

comedy movie directed by Steven Soderbergh. The movie tells about Danny Ocean and his eleven accomplices,
including his partner-in-crime, who rob three Las Vegas casinos, the Bellagio, the Mirage, and the MGM Grand

by persuaders in the narrative and power relation among characters. The research uses the persuasive strategy
theory from Crusius & Channel. The result of this study shows that several persuasive strategies can be used in
accordance in order to succeed the persuasion. Moreover, by the end of the persuasion, the power relation
between the persuader and the person being persuaded does not change, as the persuader holds a higher and more
dominant position., Discourses of persuasion are issued not only in written means of communication but also in spoken forms. Such
