"Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) has been a fundamental player in the studies of superconducting materials for many decades. This local probe technique allows for the study of the static electronic properties as well as of the low energy excitations of the electrons in the normal and the superconducting state. On that account it has also been widely applied to Fe-based superconductors from the very beginning of their discovery in February 2008. This dissertation comprises some of these very first NMR results, reflecting the unconventional nature of superconductivity and its strong link to magnetism in the investigated compounds LaO1–xFxFeAs and LiFeAs.

The field of superconductivity has long piqued the interest of researchers. Numerous studies have been carried out to explore the application of superconducting materials. Through this research, the effect of two heat treatments in the making of BaPb1-xBixO3 (BPBO) pellets using solid state reaction method with a composition of x = 0; 0,05; 0,25 has been studied. The fabrication potential of BaPb0,75Bi0,25O3-based superconducting wire using two different methods, powder-in-tube (PIT) in-situ and ex-situ, has also been studied. The result of X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) shows pellet samples that underwent the second heat treatment have better phases with fewer impurity peaks. The lattice parameters, phases, and the calculation of crystallite size using Scherrer method and Williamson-Hall Plot method have also been calculated. The increase of Bi concentration in BPBO proved to lower the crystallite sizes. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) is used to study the structure and morphology, homogeneity, grain sizes, and porosity of the samples. The resistivity behavior has also been studied using Cryogenic Magnetometer. Superconducting states can be found in pellet samples of BaPb0,95Bi0,05O3 (second heat treatment) with Tc onset = 11,5 K and Tc zero = 5,3 K, and BaPb0,75Bi0,25O3 (first heat treatment) with Tc onset = 11,1 K and Tc zero = 4 K."

Rivasseau, Vincent
"The book is based on the lectures given at the CIME school "Quantum many body systems" held in the summer of 2010. It provides a tutorial introduction to recent advances in the mathematics of interacting systems, written by four leading experts in the field, V. Rivasseau illustrates the applications of constructive Quantum Field Theory to 2D interacting electrons and their relation to quantum gravity, R. Seiringer describes a proof of Bose-Einstein condensation in the Gross-Pitaevski limit and explains the effects of rotating traps and the emergence of lattices of quantized vortices, J.-P. Solovej gives an introduction to the theory of quantum Coulomb systems and to the functional analytic methods used to prove their thermodynamic stability, finally, T. Spencer explains the supersymmetric approach to Anderson localization and its relation to the theory of random matrices. All the lectures are characterized by their mathematical rigor combined with physical insights."

Khalatnikov, Isaak M.
"The book is an expanded autobiography of the famous theoretical physicist Isaak Khalatnikov. He worked together with L.D. Landau at the Institute for Physical Problems lead by P.L. Kapitza. He is the co-author of L.D. Landau in a number of important works. They worked together in the frame of the so-called Nuclear Bomb Project. After the death of L.D. Landau, I.M. Khalatnikov initiated the establishment of the Institute for Theoretical Physics, named in honour of L.D. Landau, within the USSR Academy of Sciences. He headed this institute from the beginning as its Director. The institute inherited almost all traditions of the Landau scientific school and played a prominent role in the development of theoretical physics. So, this is a story about how the institute was created, how it worked, and about the life of the physicists in the "golden age" of the Soviet science. A separate chapter is devoted to today´s life of the institute and the young generation of physicists working now in science."

O’Regan, David D.
"The dependence on the choice of these projections is studied in detail here and a method to overcome this ambiguity in DFT+U, by self-consistently determining the projections, is introduced. The author shows how nonorthogonal representations for electronic states may be used to construct these projections and, furthermore, how DFT+U may be implemented with a linearly increasing cost with respect to system size. The use of nonorthogonal functions in the context of electronic structure calculations is extensively discussed and clarified, with new interpretations and results, and, on this topic.
