"There are two traditions in the anthropology of art: art as abstract cultural representation and art as expression or message of the artists to their audience. This article aims to balance these two traditions as alternative approach in the study of anthropology of art. Alternative approach is needed for most studies in the anthropology of art in Indonesia encounter difficulty to explain contemporary and traditional arts in the context of contemporary society. This alternative approach offers a view that art product is a synthesis of art production and history of political economy of the society. Marshall Sahlins (1976) suggests this approach which leads us to understand that culture is a symbolic order as also popularized by Louis Althusser. Hence, this article tries to understand symbolic order in the art product by discussing relevant theories in the anthropology of art."

"Ketertindasan yang dialami oleh setengah dari jumlah manusia tidak dapat lagi ditolerir. Penerapan subjektivitas maskulin pada tataran pemikiran yang terletak pada ketidaksadaran manusia telah membuat ketimpangan di mana-mana. Pola pikir atau subjektivitas seseorang di dalam dunia yang ia hidupi sangat dipengaruhi oleh unsur-unsur yang ada pada struktur sosial di mana ia berada dan mengada. Subjektivitas yang digunakan akan mencerminkan bagaimana seseorang mencerap dan mendefinisikan dunia. Bagaimana proses pembentukan subjektivitas inilah yang menjadi permasalahan awal. Lewat psikoanalisa, Jacques Lacan mengembangkan teorinya tentang proses pembentukan subjek di dalam tatanan simbolik melalui bahasa yang terstruktur pada tataran ketidaksadaran manusia. Keberlangsungan sistem dan nilai patriarkal dalam bahasa maskulin dan tatanan simbolik yang berpusat pada phallus telah merepresi _yang feminin_ sedemikian rupa. Dalam hal ini, terdapat dominasi hirarkis dalam relasi kekuasaan antara satu dengan yang lain. Untuk keluar dari keterasingan ini, perempuan harus mendapatkan subjektivitasnya sendiri demi terbebas dari subjektivitas yang maskulin. Feminisme berupaya untuk menghapus segala bentuk dominasi yang ada pada kultur kebudayaan manusia yang bersifat patriarkal. Luce Irigaray merupakan salah satu pemikir feminis yang berupaya melakukan hal ini dengan mengkritik _budaya laki-laki_ (phallomorphisme) yang mendominasi dalam segala tataran kehidupan. Tatanan simbolik harus dihilangkan sehingga perempuan dapat menjadi subjek yang berbicara dengan bahasanya sendiri. Hal ini demi memberlangsungkan pluralitas dan keberagaman yang ada pada manusia dan menghindari penekanan dari salah satu pihak saja. Dengan demikian, pihak laki_laki dan perempuan akan mendapatkan keadilan seksual lewat keberagaman yang dilakukan melalui perubahan kaidah bahasa dan konsepsi tentang kebenaran serta nilai-nilai yang mengatur tatanan sosial.

The misery which has been experienced by the half of human species, i.e. women, cannot be tolerate no more. Masculine subjectivity which has been used all along, which is under the human_s unconsciousness, has already made lots of problem everywhere. System of thought or someone_s subjectivity inside the world which they are living in influenced by those elements which are embedded in the social structures where they are exist in. The subjectivity we are using can reflect on how we observe and perceive the world. The first problem is how is the process on the shaping of our subjectivity. Through psychoanalysis, Jacques Lacan developed his theories on how subject exists inside the symbolic order through language system, which structured on the human_s unconsciousness. Patriarchal system and the values upon it inside the masculine language and symbolic order, which centered on phallus, repressed the feminine in some way or another. In this problem, there is a hierarchal domination upon power relation between one with the other. To escape from this isolation, womens must have their own subjectivities so that they can free themselves from the masculine subjectivity. Feminism trying to erase all forms of masculine dominations inside the human_s culture. Luce Irigaray is one of the feminist thinker and she critisize the phallomorphism cultures which dominate all aspects of our lives. Symbolic order must be exclude so that women can become a subject which can speak up with their own language. This has to be this way to continue plurality and diversity among human and to avoid the pressure from one side only. So that is, men and women will attain a sexual justice through diversity which can be achieve with the change of language and truth conception, also the change of values which is embedded in the social structures."

"Skripsi ini membahas peran perempuan dalam politik nasional Jepang kontemporer yang dianalisa menurut 'tatanan simbolik' Jacques Lacan. Menurut Lacan, masyarakat diatur oleh rangkaian tanda, peran dan ritual, yang disebut sebagai 'tatanan simbolik'. 'Tatanan simbolik' menciptakan aturan sosial dalam ranah ketidaksadaran manusia ---dalam alam pikiran manusia--- Dalam kebudayaan patriarki ---khususnya di Jepang---, 'tatanan simbolik' memperkuat dominasi laki-laki dalam masyarakat, sehingga peran perempuan semakin tersisih ke wilayah domestik. Politik, menjadi bidang yang diidentikkan dengan kekuasaan laki-laki, dan perempuan dianggap tidak pantas untuk turut berkontribusi di dalamnya. 'Tatanan simbolik' mengkonstruksi pola pikir masyarakat Jepang, sehingga mempengaruhi peran serta perempuan dalam kegiatan politik nasional Jepang.

This paper will deeply discuss the role of women in contemporary Japanese national politics using Lacan's 'symbolic order' as an analytical tool. According to Lacan, society is govern by a disconnected series of signs, roles, and rituals, which called the 'symbolic order'. This 'symbolic order' creates social construction in the human's unconscious state of mind. In patriarchal culture ---especially Japan---, 'symbolic order' strengthen the rule of man in society. Therefore, women's rule are gradually pushed into domestic side. Politics, is highly associated with men's authority, and women is considered not fit to contribute in politics. The 'symbolic order' reconstruct the Japanese society state of mind. Thus, it's greatly influence the role of women in contemporary Japanese national politics."

"Keadilan dan kesetaraan adalah impian setiap manusia, namun pada kenyataannya ada setengah penduduk dunia yang belum merasakannya, dalam hal ini perempuan. Melalui feminisme, perempuan mendobrak dominasi patriarkal yang ada. Perjuangan ini sebenarnya tidak hanya dilakukan oleh perempuan, sebab melalui pemikiran filsuf laki-laki seperti, John Stuart Mill, sebagai agen perubahan pada kesetaraan perempuan dengan jalan hak pilih dan Jacques Lacan dengan konsep tahapan pembentukan manusia agar perempuan keluar dari tatanan simbolik yang maskulin, serta Jacques Derrida dengan ?alat? dekonstruksi, membongkar tradisi maskulin dan menyuarakan feminitas dengan jalan tulisan. Juga melalui konsep subjek tiga filsuf ini, diharapkan tradisi patriarkis dapat terkikis.

Equality and justice is a dream for each and every human being, but in fact, half of the world population never feel it, in this case, women. Through feminism, women smashed the patriarchal domination that still exists. Actually, this fighting not only done by women, because through the thoughts of males philosopher like, John Stuart Mill as the agent of change in women equality with way of suffrage and Jacques Lacan with human figuration phases, in order to make women come out from the masculine?s symbolic order, as well as Jacques Derrida with deconstruction?s ?tool?, breaking the masculine?s tradition and give voice to femininity through the literature. Also through the concept of subject from these three male philosophers, it is hoped that patriarchies tradition could vanish."
