"Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengulas artikel Nichols dan Savage (2017) yang berjudul A social analysis of an elite constellation: The case of Formula 1, yang berargumen bahwa ajang balapan Formula 1 menciptakan ekologi yang mendukung terbentuknya olahraga elit. Penulis berargumen bahwa menurunnya signifikansi kelas dan citra elit dalam Formula 1 didorong oleh kebutuhan akan keahlian teknis dan kebertahanan dalam industri terlebih dengan adanya digitalisasi. Berangkat dari akumulasi konsep cultural capital milik Bourdieu, tulisan ini memperbarui konsep yang mengikutinya, yaitu technical elites atau elit teknis yang meliputi kemampuan spesifik dalam merancang, merakit, dan menjual. Penulis juga mengeksplorasi arena baru terkait digitalisasi Formula 1 pasca-2016 yang belum dibahas oleh Nichols dan Savage. Digitalisasi ini menghasilkan elit teknis baru yang turut menopang Formula 1 sebagai olahraga dan industri, seperti perusahaan media, pegiat media sosial, serta atlet itu sendiri.......This paper aims to review the article by Nichols and Savage (2017) titled "A social analysis of an elite constellation: The case of Formula 1". The paper argues that the Formula 1 racing spectacle creates an ecosystem that supports the formation of elite sport. I argue that the declining significance of class and elite image in Formula 1 is driven by the need for technical expertise and sustainability within the industry, particularly with the advent of digitization. Building upon Bourdieu's concept of cultural capital, this paper extends the concept to include technical elites, encompassing specific abilities in design, assembly, and marketing. Additionally, the paper explores new arenas related to the digitalization of Formula 1 post2016, which were not addressed by Nichols and Savage. This digitalization has resulted in the emergence of new technical elites who contribute to Formula 1 as a sport and industry, such as media companies, social media influencers, and the athletes themselves."
