Tesis ini membahas mengenai perilaku Korea Selatan dalam menghadapi kebangkitan China yang berpotensi mengancam Korea Selatan. Perilaku Korea Selatan yang mendekati sumber ancaman (perilaku bandwagoning) diterapkan oleh Korea Selatan terhadap China dengan meningkatkan kerjasama antar kedua negara dari tahun 2004-2012. Korea Selatan dengan kekuatan yang relatif lemah dibandingkan dengan China tidak melakukan balancing seperti prediksi kaum Neo Realis dalam mencapai kondisi balance of power. Namun, yang terjadi Korea Selatan melakukan bandwagoning karena mengharapkan keuntungan dari kedekatan dengan China (spoils of victory) yang terdiri dari stabilitas nuklir Utara dan perdamaian Asia Timur

ABSTRACT
This thesis discusses South Korea‟s behavior in responding the rise of China, which is a potential threat to South Korea. Bandwagoning strategy was taken through increasing mutual cooperation to China from 2004-2012. Despite prediction of by neorealist that state tend to balance against a preponderant power, South Korea took the strategy of bandwagoning because South Korea Expected the spoils of victory from the amity with China include nuclear stability and peace in East Asia.

Tesis ini membahas mengenai strategi hedging yang diambil oleh Indonesia dalam menghadapi kebangkitan China, khususnya di kawasan Asia (periode 2004-2013). Penelitian yang dilakukan dalam tesis ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan desaign deskriptif. Untuk menjawab rumusan masalah tersebut, peneliti menggunakan konsep Balance of Threat dan Hedging. Hasil penelitian ini adalah strategi hedging yang dilakukan Indonesia terhadap China, yang berlangsung pada tahun 2004 hingga tahun 2013 berjalan secara dinamis. Fokus penelitian pada selama periode 2004-2013 telah menunjukan kemajuan ke arah positif. Hal tersebut terbukti dengan semakin eratnya kerjasama keamanan dan pertahanan antara Indonesia dengan China, tanpa mengabaikan Amerika Serikat.

ABSTRACT
This thesis describes the hedging strategy taken by Indonesia in the face of China's rise, particularly in Asia (period 2004-2013). The research conducted in this thesis is a qualitative study desaign descriptive. To answer the problem formulation, researchers used the concept of Balance of Threat and Hedging. The results of this study are Indonesia's hedging strategy against China, which took place in 2004 to 2013 run dynamically. The focus of the research during the period 2004-2013 has shown progress toward positive. This is evident by the increasingly closer defense and security cooperation between Indonesia and China, without ignoring the United State of America

Abstrak :
Asia-Pacific as the “pivot” of the 21st century area, related to the various issues that became the main agenda when discussing the development of international politics today. The dynamics of major-power relations as the complexity of the USA-China relations has effected significantly to the regional order in Asia Pacific has a “hidden” agenda when China as an emerging power presenting a threat towards US hegemony existence in the region. The dynamics of major-power relations have indirectly created perceptions of the strengthening of China’s influence in the regional level, which leads to the centralistic weakening of US leadership in Asia-Pacific. Simultaneously, the creation of peace and the stability of regional security also demands the re-establishment of an Asia-Pacific regional order that can accommodate the possibility of a truly transitional US power over China.
