"ABSTRAK
Film adalah salah satu dari banyak sarana komunikasi masyarakat yang digunakan untuk
menyampaikan pesan melalui simbol-simbol yang ada di dalam film. Film juga sering
dijadikan sebagai sarana untuk melestarikan budaya, legenda, dan mitologi yang dimiliki dan
dipercayai oleh masyarakat tertentu. Film The Sorcerer and The White Snake adalah salah
satu film yang menjadi visualisasi dari legenda ular putih yang ceritanya telah begitu terkenal,
baik di kalangan orang Cina hingga orang luar Cina. Melalui pendekatan semiotik, penulisan
jurnal ini bermaksud untuk menjelaskan dan menganalisis simbol tokoh ular putih yang
merupakan tokoh utama dalam film ini dan kaitannya dengan mitologi dan kepercayaan Cina. ABSTRACT

"White Snake: The Origin (2019) merupakan film animasi yang menceritakan kisah persaudaraan yang kompleks antara Siluman Ular Putih (Xiao Bai) dan Siluman Ular Hijau (Xiao Qing). Film adaptasi ini merupakan film adaptasi pertama dari cerita mitologi Legenda Siluman Ular Putih yang disajikan dalam bentuk animasi dan menceritakan kisah awal mula terjadinya legenda tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas penerapan prinsip xinren dalam film tersebut dengan menganalisis kompleksitas hubungan persaudaraan Xiao Bai dan Xiao Qing. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penerapan prinsip xinren dalam hubungan antara Xiao Bai dan Xiao Qing mempengaruhi dinamika hubungan mereka. Selain itu, kompleksitas penerapan prinsip xinren dalam hubungan persaudaraan antara Xiao Bai dan Xiao Qing membuat karakter dan peran dari tokoh Xiao Bai dan Xiao Qing dan hubungan mereka dalam film menjadi lebih kuat dan kompleks. Melalui penerapan prinsip xinren, film ini juga dapat menciptakan refleksi dan pembelajaran mendalam terhadap norma dan etika yang relevan bagi masyarakat modern.

The film White Snake: The Origin (2019) is an animated film that tells the story of a complex relationship between the White Snake Demon (Xiao Bai) and the Green Snake Demon (Xiao Qing). This film adaptation is the first film adaptation of the mythological story The Legend of the White Snake Demon which is presented in animated form and tells the story of how the legend began. This research aims to discuss the application of the xinren principle in the film by analyzing the complexity of Xiao Bai and Xiao Qing's sibling relationship. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The research results show that the application of xinren principles in the relationship between Xiao Bai and Xiao Qing influences the dynamics of their relationship. Apart from that, the complexity of applying the xinren principle in the sibling relationship between Xiao Bai and Xiao Qing makes the characters and roles of Xiao Bai and Xiao Qing and their relationship in the film stronger and more complex. Through the application of xinren principles, this film can also create in-depth reflection and learning regarding norms and ethics that are relevant to modern society."

"Film White Snake: The Origin (2019) merupakan film animasi yang diadaptasi dari legenda klasik Tiongkok, Bai Niangzi Yongzhen Leifengta, yang ditulis oleh Feng Menglong. Dalam proses adaptasinya, sutradara menyajikan berbagai transformasi pada aspek tokoh, pengubahan cerita, dan latar. Transformasi tersebut tidak hanya berhasil memperkenalkan kebudayaan Tiongkok kepada penonton, namun sekaligus meraih keuntungan komersial. Transformasi-transformasi yang dibuat oleh sutradara mencakup transformasi pada aspek tokoh, seperti perubahan nama, visualisasi karakter utama, dan penambahan tokoh-tokoh baru, aspek pengubahan cerita yakni modifikasi pada prolog dan epilog, serta transformasi pada latar waktu dan tempat yang menciptakan konteks historis yang memperkuat elemen fantasi dan legenda dalam cerita. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun film ini masih mempertahankan unsur klasik legenda, transformasi yang diciptakan sutradara dalam film ini telah menarik banyak penonton masa kini. Signifikansi penelitian ini dalam ranah studi sastra dan film memperlihatkan bahwa kekayaan sastra klasik merupakan sumber yang dapat terus dieksplorasi untuk mendukung kesuksesan industri perfilman, khususnya animasi di Tiongkok.

White Snake: The Origin (2019) is an animated film adapted from the classic Chinese legend, Bai Niangzi Yongzhen Leifengta, written by Feng Menglong. In the adaptation process, the director presents various transformations in aspects of the characters, changes of the story, and setting. This transformation not only succeeded in introducing Chinese culture to the audience but also achieved commercial benefits. The transformations made by the director include transformations in aspects of the characters, such as changing names, visualization of the main characters, and adding new characters. In aspects of changing the story, there are modifications to the prologue and epilogue, as well as transformations in the time and place setting which creates a clear historical context and strengthens the elements of fantasy and legend in the story. The research results show that although this film still maintains the classic elements of the legend, the transformation that the director created in this film has attracted many audiences today. The significance of this research in the realm of literature and film studies shows that the richness of classical literature is a source that can continue to be explored to support the success of the film industry, especially animation in China.

"Film White Snake (白蛇:缘起Báishé: Yuánqǐ) adalah film animasi yang menceritakan mengenai perjalanan siluman ular putih bernama Xiao Bai dalam mencari identitasnya dengan bantuan manusia bernama Xuan. Perjalanan mereka dipenuhi dengan rintangan dan musuh-musuh yang ingin membunuh mereka, namun mereka selalu menolong satu sama lain. Waktu yang mereka habiskan bersama di perjalanan menumbuhkan rasa cinta terhadap satu sama lain, begitu pula dengan kebajikan-kebajikan dalam diri Xiao Bai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penokohan Xiao Bai dalam menerapkan nilai kebajikan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa walaupun Xiao Bai merupakan siluman, nilai kebajikan tetap terlihat dalam dirinya yang ditunjukkan melalui tindakan dan percakapannya dengan tokoh lain. Selain itu, penemuan lainnya dalam penelitian ini adalah adanya kontradiksi pada penokohan Xiao Bai yang juga memiliki sisi gelap dalam dirinya. Dengan adanya penerapan dan kontradiksi ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat keseimbangan di setiap makhluk hidup. Film ini juga memberikan edukasi mengenai kebajikan dalam diri sendiri yang dapat dipicu oleh pergaulan dengan orang-orang di sekitar.

White Snake (白蛇:缘起 Báishé: Yuánqǐ) is an animated film that tells about the journey of a white snake demon named Xiao Bai in finding her identity with the help of a human named Xuan. Their journey is filled with obstacles and enemies who want to kill them, but they always help each other. The time they spent together grew their love for one another, as well as the virtues in Xiao Bai. This research aims to analyze the characterization of Xiao Bai in applying the value of virtue. The method used in this research is the qualitative method. The results show that although Xiao Bai is a demon, the value of virtue still appears in her which is shown through her actions and conversations with other characters. In addition, this research also finds there is a contradiction in the characterization of Xiao Bai who also has a dark side in her. The existence of these applications and contradictions shows that there is balance in every living being. This film also provides education about the virtues within oneself that can be triggered by association with the people around them."
