Abstrak :
The cytokine is one of the proteins responsible for the immune system. Several types of cytokines acting as key regulators of infection include IL-10, IL-12, and IL-14. The chemical content of Zingiber cassumunar shows potential immunomodulatory effects. This study aimed to determine the effect of the ethanol extract of Zingiber cassumunar (EEZC) on the expressions of IL-10, IL-12, and IL-14. The test animals were BALB/c mice, which were divided into five groups, i.e., normal group (untreated), negative control group (treated with 10% of tween 80), and three treatment groups that respectively received 1.25 mg, 2.5mg, and 5mg/20g BW of EEZC. The treatment was carried out for 21 days. On the 22ndday, the mice were induced with LPS intraperitoneally (except for the normal group). The interleukin expression was observed by immunohistochemistry using specific antibodies, and the expressed cells were counted under a microscope. The administration of EEZC at the doses of 1.25 mg, 2.5mg, and 5mg/20g BW for 21 days increased the expression of IL-10, IL-12, and IL-14 significantly and proportionally to the dose. and suggested the potency of extract to induce both innate and adaptive immunity. This activity may be attributable to curcumin as an active compound in this extract.

Telah dilakakan pcnelitian tentang ekstraksi dan uji nktivitas amibakteri minyak atsiri dati rimpang bangle (Ztngiber cassumunar Roxb.) dengan ekstrak metode destilasi uap (steam distillation) be!Wlll1la kuning sebanyak 1,01 gram dan metoda sokletasi n-heksan be!Wlll1la oranye sehanyak 5,43 gram. Hasil uji nktivitas antibakteri minyak atsiri baik dengan metnde destilasi uap (steam distilation) maupun metode soxhletasi 11-heksan dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, dan Salmonella thyposa. Sedangkan terlladap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus minyak atsiri dengan metode destilasi uap (steam distillation) tidak menunjakkan daya hambat dibandingkan dengan metode soxhletasi n-heksan. Diameter daerah hambatan dari perturnbubao bakteri-bakteri tersebut dipengaruhi oleh konsentrasi ekstrak rimpang bangle. Minyak atsiri yang diperoleh dengan metode sokletasi n-heksao mempunyai aktivitas aotibakteri lebih tinggi dibandingkan minyak atsiri dengan metode distilasi uap (steam distillation). ABSTRACT
Extraction method and antibacterial activity test of the bangle rhizomes (Zingiber cassumunar Roxb.) was carried out to extract yellow essential oils 1he for steam distillation method with a weight of 1.01 gram and was dark yellow in color for n-hexane soxhletatlon method wi1h a weight 5.43 grams . The activity test on Escherichia Cl)/i, Bacillus subtilis, and Salmonella thyposa bacteria?s bo1h of methods showed a antibacterial activity by GIZ (Growth Inhibition Zone. Meanwhile, against Staphylococcus aureus with the essential oil steam distillation methods showed no inhibition compared with n-hexane soxhletation method. Diameter of inhibition zone of bacterial growth is influenced by the concentration of rhizome extract bangle. Essential oils obtained with n? hexane roxhletation method has higher antibacterial activity than the essential oil by steam distillation method.
