"Pembajakan film telah tumbuh menjadi epidemi di India meskipun hak kekayaan intelektual telah ditegakkan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis sejauh mana pembajakan film berdampak pada industri perfilman India dan apakah peranan yang dipegang oleh hak kekayaan intelektual di India menyangkut hal tersebut. Dalam mencapai tujuan penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan literature review. Untuk menyimpulkan, pembajakan film memiliki dampak sosial-ekonomi pada pendapatan, pekerjaan, dan inovasi dan pertumbuhan industri film India. Selain itu, hak kekayaan intelektual India memiliki peran untuk memberikan hak dan perlindungan kepada pemegang hak, namun penegakannya sejauh ini masih dianggap lemah dan karenanya, fungsi ini tidak bisa dicapai dengan optimal. Ini berarti, bahwa pemerintah dan hukum penegak harus meningkatkan mekanisme penegakan hak kekayaan intelektual dan untuk oknum-oknum di industri perfilman India harus menyesuaikan model bisnis mereka untuk beradaptasi dengan situasi ini.

Movie piracy has become an epidemic in India, despite that the intellectual property rights have been enforced. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the extent to which movie piracy impacted the Indian motion picture industry and the role intellectual property rights play. Literature review is used to achieve the aim of this study. To conclude, movie piracy has socio-economic impacts on income, employment, and innovation and growth of the Indian motion picture industry. Furthermore, the Indian intellectual property right has a role on giving rights and protection to the right holders, however the enforcement is deemed weak and hence, the function is not optimized. This implies, that the government and law enforcer should improve its enforcement mechanism and the businesses in the Indian motion picture industry should adjust its business model to adapt to this situation."

Means ofaccessing illegal movies are becoming easier for wide population to access such as the P2Pprotocols and streaming websites. The developments of the above contribute to incongruences inthe motion picture industry, as they are the ones who bear the disadvantages from movie piracy.This study thus aims to analyze the Intellectual Property (IP) Law related to motion picture andreview possible solutions to these problems. "Film adalah produk yang kompleks dan aliran informasi di antara penonton bioskop selama pemutaran film dapat berkembang di sepanjang jalan yang tidak mungkin untuk menghubungkan keberhasilan film dengan faktor penyebab individu. Studi ini mencoba menggunakan valensi ulasan online dan kekuatan bintang untuk memprediksi kinerja box office, sambil mengendalikan genre. Untuk melakukan penelitian ini, 2.643 ulasan online dari Metacritic dikumpulkan untuk memahami faktor apa saja yang memengaruhi kinerja box office. Analisis regresi digunakan untuk menguji hipotesis. Berbeda dengan penelitian sebelumnya yang menemukan bahwa pendorong kinerja box office adalah ulasan online, penulis menemukan bahwa kekuatan bintanglah yang tampaknya penting dan bukan ulasan online. Hasil eksperimen menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan bintang adalah isyarat yang memengaruhi penonton bioskop untuk menonton film, sedangkan valensi ulasan online tidak terlihat sebagai indikasi kualitas untuk subjek eksperimen ini. Selanjutnya, kekuatan bintang tidak membantu mengurangi potensi efek ulasan online. Implikasi teoritis dan manajerial, bersama dengan keterbatasan temuan dan arah untuk penelitian masa depan, ditawarkan.

Movies are complex products and the cascade of information among moviegoers during the course of a movie’s run can evolve along a myriad of paths that it is impossible to attribute the success of a movie to individual causal factors. This study attempts to use the valence of online reviews and star power to predict box office performance, while controlling the genre. To conduct this study, 2,643 online reviews from Metacritic were collected to understand which factors impacted box office performance. The regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses. In contrast with previous studies that have found that the driver of box office performance is the online reviews, the author finds that it is the star power that seems to matter and not the online reviews. The results of the experiment indicated that star power is a cue that affects moviegoers to view the movie, while the valence of online reviews is not seen to be an indication of quality per se for this experimental subject. Further, star power did not help to mitigate the potential effect of online reviews. Theoretical and managerial implications, along with limitations of the findings and direction for future research, are offered."
