"Concerning with the local low capability in producing and manufacturing the Power sector components and equipment, in Contrast, in PJP-II (the second phase of national long term development) this mentioned infrastructure will be progressively developed. For this purpose a wide research program on power sector components and equipment should be carried out in the University of Indonesia for strengthening the engineering and manufacturing capability of the industries in the power sectors especially the medium and small scale Industries (SA/fl). The first phase of the study will focus on the prototype design, fabrication method and procedures and mechanical performance testing of 500 KV transmission line spacer damper. In this study, the mechanical testing on the prototype spacer damper will consist of structural static and fatigue test, Test on rubber part and damping study, In the next phase for complete prototyping, high voltage electrical testing (corona testing) will be also conducted."

"ABSTRAK
Karakteristik gesekan dan keausan pada bahan non metal khususnya bahan komposit berpenguat serat (fiber reinforce composite) masih memerlukan banyak penelitian, karena belum banyak diketahui oleh para ahli.
Penelitian yang dilakukan tentang keausan bahan komposit /vynil ester pada kondisi kering. Pengamatan yang dilakukan adalah pengaruh struktur, arah struktur, volume serat terhadap laju keausan. Selain hal ini juga dilakukan analisa pengaruh beban terhadap laju keausan, serta mengamati mekanisme keausan tersebut berlangsung.
Struktur yang diamati adalah uni-directional, bi-directional, dan tri-directional dengan arah yang berbeda dari tiap struktur. Adapun variasi volume serat yaitu 0 %, 14,3 %, 28,5 %, dan 42,5 % dengan satu arah struktur. Kemudian dalam penelitian ini variasi beban yang diberikan adalah 4,5 N, 5,886 N, 7,35 N, 8,829 N, 9,8 N, 11,76 N, dan 14.,7 N.
Dalam eksperimen ini, pengujian ketahanan aus menggunakan mesin uji aus abrasif dengan sistem pin on disk dan untuk mengamati mekanisme keausan abrasif digunakan foto metalografi.

ABSTRACT
Friction And Wear Characteristics of a Non-Metal Material, Particularly Fiber Reinforced Composite, Until Now is not Sufficiently Known.
This research report present the results on the carbon vinyl ester composite in the dry condition. The observation in this research is on the effect of the structure, orientation, fibre volumique against the composite wear mechanism.
Other wire we can observe the influence of load variation to the rate of wear and how wear mechanism works.
All experiments on composite wear resistance were done by using pin-on disk. And for microscopic observation we used optical microscope and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope).
