"A method by high performance liquid chromatography for the analysis of acrylamide in potato chips, is reported. The retention time for the elution of acrylamide from the C18 columm ranged from 3 to 3.2 minutes and the eluate was analyzed by UV-VIS detector. A linear response was found for the acrylamide standard tested within the concentration range of 0.8-10 g/ml and the corelation coefficient (r0 greater that 0.999 with detection limit 0.06 ppm and quantitatice limit 0.19 ppm. Sample preparation was performed by measn of solvent extraction using dichlormethane and subsequent re-extraction of the organic solvent with water. This aqueous sample solution was found to be free of any interferences and gave acrylamide and recorveries higher than 90%."

"Isolation of total sterol from waste product of soy bean cake has been conducted, followed by biotransformation to 1,4-androstadien-3,17-dione (ADD). The waste product consist of; β-sitosterol, stigmasterol, kaemfesterol, which are isolated by column chromatography technique using silica gel as stationary phase and chloroform as mobile phase. Biotransformation was conducted by using Mycobacterium phlei DSM 43286 in the present of α, α?- dipiridil as an inhibitor with concentration of 0,5; 1; 1,5; 2,0 mM. The main product of biotransformation were ADD and pregnenolon. The optimum yield of ADD 0,48% is achieved by adding 1,5 mM α, α?- dipiridil are two hours after addition of substrate and 72 hours of incubation time."

"ABSTRACT
Xylitol is five-carbon polyol sugar which widely used as a sweetener in food and pharmaceutical.
Xylitol production by chemical procedures using high pressure and temperature also needed
extensive purification are less cost-effective in production. Fermentation which has more advantages
with lower cost due tocheaper substrate and the non-necessity of xylose purification. The purposes of
this research were to find optimum condition for xylitol production with particular variable such as
substrate concentration, aeration, methanol and nitrogen sources addition. Oil palm empty fruit
bunch hydrolyzates containing xylose was fermented into xylitol by Debaryomyces hansenii UICC Y-
276 at room temperature. Fermentation was carried out at 200 rpm for 72 hours. Then, xylose and
xylitol were determined by HPLC with RI detector and LiChrosorb® NH2 (4 mm x 125,00 mm, 5μm)
column. Acetonitrile-water was used as a solvent, 20 mL sample volume was injected at flow rate of
1,0 mL/min at room temperature. The optimum fermentation conditions was obtained in a state of
semi-anaerobic condition (1 : 2.5) with 10,0 % (w/v) xylose concentration. Meanwhile with the
addition of various concentration of methanol and nitrogen sources, it was obtained that 1,5 %
methanol and 0,5 % ammonium sulfate gave high yield of xylitol production. The best result for yield
xylitol production was 31,83 %."
