"ABSTRAK
Relative clause (KR) in Arabic Language is an additional constituent describing a nominal head (FN hulu) in sentences. Its location in sentences is always behind the nominal head. Between the nominal head and the relative clause, there is a relative pronoun (PR), which relates both of them. The arrangement is like this: nominal head + relative pronoun + relative clause (FN hulu + PR + KR).
In Arabic, relative clause acts like an adjective. There are two reasons that show that relative clause function like an adjective. First, relative pronoun must concord with the nominal head in number, case, and gender. Second, a pronoun that is co-referential with nominal head must appear in the relative clause.
In the Arabic language, there are three things have to be concerned. First, the location of the nominal head is always before the relative pronoun and the relative clause. Second, relative pronoun always appears if the nominal head is a definite noun, and disappears after an indefinite nominal head. Third, the relative pronoun man will appear if the nominal head syahsurr `someone' is deleted, and the relative pronoun ma will appear if the nominal head syai'un `something' is deleted.

"This research aims at describing and explaining Japanese relative clause syntactically and semantically in scientific and literary style. The relative clauses are analyzed based on sentence context. Therefore, we can have a comprehensive description of structure and type of relative clauses. The corpus of this research derives from the text books and a novel. The text books used are Nihon Shakai Saiko: Japanese an Update, written by Mizue Sasaki and Masarni Kadokura in 1991 and Nihon Jija Shiriizu: Nihonjin no Issho written by Shuichi Saito in 1980. The novel entitled Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto written in 1991 is also used in this research. The writer uses recording technique in collecting data which are then analyzed based on embedding technique. Data analysis is classified into two groups: (1) the structure of relative clause and (2) the type of relative clauses. The structure of relative clause consists of patterns of relative clause, noun phrase as a head, and relative markers. The types of relative clause consist of type of relative clauses based on the presence/absence of "case relation" and the types of relative clause based on their functions.
Analysis result indicates that relative clause patterns consist of five patterns. Namely (1) NPI wa/ga + NP2 + Copula, (2) NP wa/ga + AP, (3) NP wa/ga + VP, (4) NPI wa/ga + NP2 o + VP, and (5) NPI wa + NP2 ga + VP. Noun phrases which can be modified by relative clauses are NP functioning as subject, object, complement, adverb, and predicate in the matrix clause. Then, relative markers which indicate the relation between relative clauses and noun phrases can be grouped into (I) zero relative marker, (2) to iu relative marker, and (3) optional relative marker. The use of relative markers is determined by semantic feature of noun phrase. Based on analysis we can find two types of relative clauses based on the presence/the absence of case relation", namely, internally headed and externally headed relative clause, whereas the result based on the function is divided into two types: defining and non-defining relative clause."

"ABSTRACT
Language Attitude Towards Indonesian New Words among College People in Jakarta. This study is focused on language attitude towards Indonesian new words among college people in Jakarta with respect to the acceptability of the new words. The data were collected by means of questioner as primary instrument and interview as secondary instrument. This research aims at describing language attitude among college people and the degree of acceptability of new words.
To achieve the aims, this research makes use two approaches: sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics approaches. The sociolinguistics approach--in this case language planning--is used in this research because this study is concerned with corpus planning that is the corpus of the Indonesian language. Corpus planning is part of language planning which deals with the development of language code in order to make language capable of being effectively and efficiently used to express various modem concepts. The psycholinguistics approach is used in this research because this study is concerned with language speakers' attitude, the field of social psychology.
This study reveals that college people in Jakarta tend to have a positive attitude towards Indonesian new words and its development. This attitude can be seen not only in its cognitive components, but also in its affective and cognitive component. This study also shows that this language attitude is highly correlated with the acceptability of Indonesian new words although the acceptability of Indonesian new words is also determined by the characteristics of the new words, i.e. clarity of meanings, economy of word forms, beauty of sounds, and usefulness. The characteristics of the new words are found to have correlation with the acceptability of new words. But the social variables, i.e. gender, job, education, age, and the first language of the respondents do not seem to contribute to the attitude towards, and acceptability of the new words."
