This research aims at finding out frequency of psychopathology among People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) at Pelita Ilmu Clinic, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (Working Group on AIDS) and Dharmais National Cancer Hospital. This research is a cross-sectional study conducted to 100 PLWHA in the three sites during September 2003-February 2004, utilizing questioners and MINI ICD-10 instrument.Based on MINI ICD-10 instrument, there are several kinds of psychopathology among PLWHA that includes Depressive Episode and Dysthymia (68%), Psychoactive Substance Related Disorders (63%), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (41%), Alcohol Related Disorders (17%), Panic Disorder (7%), Single Psychotic Episode (6%), Social Phobia (2%), Recurrent Psychotic Episode (2%), and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (1%).Statistical analysis was done on several determinant factors focused on the four most frequently occurred psychopathology. Chi square and Fisher Exact were conducted in bivariate analysis and logistic regression in multivariate analysis. At the significance test, there is a significant relationship between the stage of AIDS (p= 0.035) and the level of knowledge about HIV (p={0.046) with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. There is also significant relationship between factors such as age of respondents (p=0.004), sex (p=0.002) and low level of education (p=0.087) with Psychoactive Substance Related Disorders. No significant relationship either between determinant factors and Depressive Episode and Dysthymia or between sex and risk factors with Alcohol Related Disorders. Therefore, it is necessary to intensify program on Communication, Information and Education, especially to the high-risk group or those who are already infected by HIV/AIDS. Also it is urgent to give special advocacy to young generation and raise the public's awareness of the importance of Voluntary Counseling and Testing. Likewise, counselors need to join in psychiatric training in a bid to give better service to PLWHA. |
