ABSTRAK Disertasi ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan bahwa dalam tiga novel Toni Morrison, kebebasan eksistensial tokoh perempuan kulit hitam harus berhadapan dengan lecut balik eksternal dan internal. Disertasi ini mengkombinasikan filsafat eksistensial dan teori feminisme kulit hitam untuk membentuk dua konsep operasional. Konsep yang pertama adalah ?Lecut Balik Eksistensial Perempuan Kulit Hitam? yang digunakan untuk mengkritisi beroperasinya ideologi lecut balik eksistensial yang menghalangi kebebasan eksistensial tokoh perempuan kulit hitam. Konsep yang kedua adalah ?Eksistensialisme Perempuan Kulit Hitam? yang digunakan untuk mengkritisi resistensi tokoh perempuan kulit hitam terhadap lecut balik eksistensial yang mereka alami. Analisis menunjukkan bahwa tokoh utama perempuan kulit hitam yang sangat fokus pada kebebasan eksistensial yang bersifat individual mengalami penderitaan yang hebat akibat ideologi lecut balik eksistensial yang kuat yang beroperasi pada modus keberadaan fisik, kesadaran, dan sosial. Di sisi lain, tokoh perempuan kulit hitam pendamping yang mencoba untuk inklusif, sampai taraf tertentu, mampu mengelakkan ideologi lecut balik yang kuat sehingga mereka mampu bertahan dan berterima dalam komunitas kulit hitam. ABSTRACT The dissertation aims to show that in Toni Morrison?s three novels, the existential freedom of the black woman characters must face external and internal existential backlashes. The dissertation combines existential philosophy and black feminist theory to construct two operational concepts. The first concept is ?The Black Woman Existential Backlash? which is used to criticize the operation of the existential backlash ideology that hampers the existential freedom of the black woman characters. The second one is?The Black Woman Existentialism? which is used to criticize the resistance of the black woman characters towards the existential backlashes they experience. The analysis shows that the black woman main characters who strongly focus on individual existential freedom suffer terribly from the harsh existential backlash ideology which operates on their physical, consciousness, and social modes of existence. On the other hand, the black woman supporting characters who try to be inclusive are, to a certain extent, able to circumvent the harsh existential backlash ideology resulting in their survival and acceptance in the black community. |
