Commision tri pin-on-disc apparatus

The Tri pin-on-disc wear testing device was constructed in 1996. Several experiments were completed on this device in the following years up to 1998.From there on, it was unused for approximately 5 years until a project started in mid-2003 had an objective to do more experiments using the device.The device is capable to emulate sliding friction of sliding couples. The tests done on its active years were based on two materials, the Ultra High Molecular Weight Polymer against 316L stainless steel. Results acquired were varied, getting better after every project due to moditications of the device.It was evident that after being unused for 5 years, the device had started to develop faulty pants. Therefore review is necessary to analyze any potential error caused by the mentioned parts. The objective of the project was altered to reactivate the device so that it can perform its intended function.Replacements of parts with better designed ones were done, and maiden tests were performed to convince that the now repaired device is working. Final part of the project is to perform tests using similar specifications ofthe previous tests to enable comparison to be made.The final result of the project is wear testing device that is operational and can be used for further wear and friction tests. |
