The Characteristics of elderly population in Indonesia by social, economic and Health Status: Analysis of the 1999 National Social and Economic Survey (SUSENAS)

| This study describes briefly tire characteristics of elderlypopulation in Indonesia by focusing on their health status. The 1999SUSENAS (Survai Sosial Ekonomi Nasional/National Socio-economicSurvey) data are utilized as a source. In examining factors influenced thehealth stunts of the elderly population, the logistic multinomial models areapplied. The health status is put as a dependent variable, while individualcharacteristics, family life and environmental circumstances are consideredas independent variables. Using a sample of 63.312 elderly people, thestudy reveals that the health status of elderly people in Indonesia isrelatively bad, which is highly influenced by those explanatory variablesconsidered. |
