Abstract
ABSTRAK
Tesis ini membahas tentang identitas Betawi yang direpresentasikan dalam organisasi Forum Betawi Rempug (FBR). Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif menggunakan pendekatan analisis tekstual dan visual dari teori semiotika Roland Barthes dan konsep-konsep representasi dan identitas yang diungkapkan Stuart Hall, Paul DuGay dan kawan-kawan. Dalam analisis ditemukan identitas etnis Betawi antara lain sebagai etnis yang Islami, berbudaya bahkan sebagai etnis asli Jakarta dikonstruksi melalui representasi yang diatur sedemikian rupa untuk menimbulkan makna seperti yang diinginkan FBR. Namun, media massa juga berperan dalam pembentukan identitas Betawi dan menghasilkan konotasi-konotasi negatif, sehingga menimbulkan identitas premanisme dan kekerasan. Dengan demikian, tampak jelas bahwa Betawi sebagai sebuah penanda (signifier) bersifat ?unstable? dan setiap orang/pihak mempunyai peluang sebagai ?positioning?. Sehingga identitas Betawi selalu berubah-ubah sesuai dengan posisi dan kepentingan pihak tersebut sebagaimana halnya FBR dan media merepresentasikan identitas Betawi berbeda-beda
Abstract
This thesis examines the ethnic Betawi identity that represented in Organization of Forum Betawi Rempug (FBR). This study is a qualitative that using textual analysis and visual approach and Semiotika of Roland Barthes theory and the concept of Stuart Hall, Paul DuGay et al. In the analysis found that the Betawi ethnic identity as an Islamic and cultural ethnic in Jakarta as constructed through representations that caused the desired meaning of FBR. However, the mass media also play a role in the formation of Betawi identity and give negative connotations about FBR that rised identity of thuggery and violence. Thus, it seems clear that Betawi as signifier is unstable and any person has opportunity as a positioning. So, identity of Betawi always changes according to the position as well as the FBR and media that represent the different identity of Betawi.
