Abstract The success and sustainability of drug administration of filariasis, require an understanding of relevant perceptions and practices of the people livingin endemic communities. Filariasis elimination relies on once yearly concurrentadministration of two drugs, Albendazole with DEC, that shown to be highlyeffective in removing microfilariae in the blood. This research aimed to analyze economic evaluation of patientcompliance in drug administration of filariasis. This intervension would removemicrofilariae from the blood, the amicrofilaremia. On the other side, drugadministration for Lymphatic Filariasis can cause adverse reaction frommicrofilariae and adult worm death. This adverse reaction can influence thecompliance of taking the drug and insert the cost of therapy. The costs that spentduring the drug administration are the cost to administer the drug and the cost forresolve adverse reaction. This economic evaluation would compare these costswith the amicrofilaremia condition.Result showed that the cost of amicrofilaremia on patient with nocomplience is Rp. 119.992,- and the cost of amicrofilaremia on patient withcomplience is Rp. 141.514,-. It means that the cost of amicrofilaremia on patientwith no compliance is smaller than with complience. Advocating the feasibilityand significant reduce of microfilariae of low costs, as shown in this study couldbe useful to sensitize the health and the authorities to generate resources andcommunities for LF elimination programmes. |
