Intestinal parasitic infections often occur among school children especially who live in densely populated locations with poor sanitation. Intestinal parasitic infections may have a bad side effect on children's growth. This research was done in Pesantren X, East Jakarta to determine the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infection and it?s association with the characteristic of santri. This cross sectional research used all students (santri) as respondent (n=162). Data acquisition took at 20-21 of January 2011. The data processed by SPSS 17.0 and its analyzed by chi Square test and fisher exact test. The result showed 39 respondents (24%) have been infected by intestinal parasites namely, A.lumbricoides (2,7%), T.trichiura (2,7%), B.hominis (75,6%), G.lamblia (10,8%), E.coli (2,7%), and H.nana (2,7%). Most respondents are 11-15 years old (74 persons or 45,7%), girls (92 persons or 56,8%). The level of education mostly from tsanawiyah (74 persons or 45,7%), already had knowledge about intestinal parasitic infection, (149 persons or 92%) and the information was gotten from more than three different sources (74,4%). Based on chi square test, there was no statically significant difference between prevalence of intestinal parasitic infection and age, sex, level of education, and quantity of knowledge source. Based on fisher?s exact test, there was no statically significant difference between the level of intestinal parasitic infection and the knowledge. In conclusion, there was no association between prevalence of intestinal parasitic infection and age, sex, level of education, knowledge, and quantity of the knowledge source. |
