This study discusses the relationship between family functioning and psychological well-being of mothers of autistic children in middle childhood. Fifty one mothers who have autistic children with age 6-12 years, complete the family functioning and psychological well-being questionnaires. Family functioning was measured by using a modification of the Family Assessment Device (FAD) instrument developed by Epstein, Bishop, and Levin (1976) and to measure the psychological well-being using a modified Psychological Well-being Scale developed by Ryff (1989). The results of this study indicate there is a significant positive relationship between family functioning with psychological well-being of mothers of autistic children (r = 0756; p = 0.000, significant at the LoS 0.01). Therefore, the more effective functioning of the family, the higher psychological well-being of individuals. This is in accordance with the opinion of King, King, Rosenbaun & Goffin (1999) that the family functioning as a social-ecological factors are significant predictors of psychological well-being of parents with autistic children.
