ABSTRAK In the optical communication system, we usually usesome optical components consisting oF very small lensesior coupling, branching, and transmitting lightwaves.Optical Fiber communication system has reached anintegrated optical circuitry by utilizing opticalelements with distributed-index medium. On the otherhand, a concept of stacked planar optics has beendeveloped based on the characteristics of distributedindex medium in planar optical elements. A group ofoptical components which is known as microoptics is nowa further development for realizing suitable microlensesfor the purpose oi optimizing such components. Foriocusing and imaging components, microlenses such asdistributed-index (DI) or gradient-index (GRIN) rodmicrolenses , tiny spherical lenses, and similar opticshave been utilized. In this research work I have studied theapplicability of planar microlenses as microopticcomponent. Two examples of such components are thebranching circuit and the fiber coupler for workingsystems in optical fiber communications have beendesigned and constructed. I have also studied thefocusing property of planar microlens with beam deviationmethod based on optical geometric concept.
