ABSTRAK Dilatarbelakangi kondisi kesenjangan antar wilayah yang terjadi secarapersisten, tesis ini menelaah perekonomian Indonesia dalam jangka panjang,apakah akan cenderung konvergen atau justru divergen. Konvergensi inididasarkan pada teori pertumbuhan Neoklasik Solow yang mengasumsikanadanya diminishing return to capital sehingga pada saat negara maju mencapaikondisi steady state, tingkat pengembalian modal tidak akan mengalamipeningkatan lagi meskipun terdapat tambahan investasi. Ketika negara majumencapai kondisi mapan, negara berkembang akan mengalami pertumbuhan yangterus menerus hingga dapat mengejar ketertinggalannya dari negara maju danmencapai kondisi mapan. Tesis ini juga memfokuskan pada pengaruhinfrastruktur dan keterkaitan spasial karena dalam perspektif ilmu ekonomiregional, setiap wilayah tidak dapat diperlakukan sebagai unit yang berdiri sendiri.Situasi ekonomi dan politik suatu wilayah akan mempengaruhi kebijakan diwilayah tersebut yang juga akan berdampak ke wilayah tetangganya.Berdasarkan uji hipotesis berganda, spatial cross-regressive model lebihtepat digunakan untuk menganalisis proses konvergensi beta bersyarat diIndonesia dibandingkan model klasik. Hasil analisis terhadap model konvergensibeta bersyarat menggunakan metode fixed effect secara konsistenmengonfirmasikan bahwa dalam jangka panjang perekonomian Indonesia akancenderung konvergen dengan kecepatan 8,08 persen per tahun. Temuan lainnyaadalah, infrastruktur jalan berpengaruh positif terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi dansecara spasial investasi dan infrastruktur jalan juga menunjukkan pengaruh positifterhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi. Dengan kata lain, investasi dan infrastrukturjalan suatu wilayah tidak hanya berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomiwilayah tersebut tetapi juga terhadap perekonomian wilayah sekitarnya. ABSTRACT Motivated inter-regional disparities condition that occurs persistently, thisthesis examines the Indonesian economy in the long term, whether it will tend toconverge or diverge. This convergence is based on the Solow Neoclassical growththeory which assumes the existence of diminishing returns to capital so that whenthe developed countries reach steady state conditions, the return rate of capitalwill not increase further despite additional investment. When developed countriesreach a steady state, developing countries will continuous growth up to ‘catch-up‘with developed countries and achieve a steady state. This thesis also focuses onthe influence of spatial dependency and infrastructure since regional economicsperspective, each region can not be treated as a stand-alone unit. Economical andpolitical situation of a region will influence policy in that region which will alsohave an impact to the neighboring regions.Based on multiple hypothesis testing, spatial cross-regressive model is moreappropriately used to analyze the conditional of beta convergence process inIndonesia than the classical models. The results of the conditional betaconvergence model using fixed effect method consistently confirmed that theIndonesian economy in the long term will likely converge with a speed of 8.08percent per year. Other finding is, road infrastructure has a positive effect oneconomic growth and investment and road infrastructure are spatially showed apositive effect on economic growth. In other words, the investment and theinfrastructure of a region not only affect the economic growth of that region butalso to the economy of the contiguous region. |
