Abstract
Tujuan utama penelitian ini untuk membahas tentang sejarah dari Kapitan Cina pertama, Souw Bengkong (蘇鳴崗 / Sū Mínggāng), terkait dengan pembangunan Batavia pada masa kekuasaan Perserikatan Perusahaan Dagang Hindia Timur (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie/ VOC). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peranan bangsa Cina yang dipimpin oleh Kapitan Souw cukup besar dan menjadi tulang punggung perkembangan Batavia.
The main focus of this research is about history of the first Chinese Kapitan, Souw Bengkong (蘇鳴崗 / Sū Mínggāng), and his contribution to the development of Batavia, as new city that was conquered by Netherlands East-Indies Company (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie/ VOC). The result of this research is Chinese community and their leader, Kapitan Souw, give a great contribution to the development of Batavia.
