ABSTRAK Kehidupan di kalangan eksekutif menuntut untuk selalu berpenampilanprima. Berbagai peranan penting dan tanggung jawab yang besar sebagaipimpinan perusahaan, khususnya di perusahaan multinasional, membuat paraeksekutif sering kali merasa membutuhkan orang lain yang bisa mereka percayauntuk mengungkapkan diri untuk berbagi informasi privat yang mereka miliki.Tentu saja mereka harus sangat selektif dalam memilah informasi yang ingindisampaikan kepada orang lain, dan informasi yang cukup disimpan untuk dirimereka sendiri. Penelitian ini memfokuskan pada proses terjadinya SelfDisclosure berdasarkan aturan dan batasan yang terdapat dalam keseluruhanasumsi dasar Communication Privacy Management, dan juga kepercayaan. IstilahSelf Disclosure, dalam bahasa sehari-hari, dikenal dengan istilah komunikasicurhat (curahan hati). Melalui manajemen komunikasi privasi, para eksekutifdapat memahami dan menyadari adanya batasan dalam mengontrol aksesprivatnya sehingga mereka tetap merasa aman dan nyaman dalammengkomunikasikan curhatan mereka kepada orang sehingga reputasi profesionalmereka tetap terjaga. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif,dengan model studi kasus, serta menggunakan wawancara mendalam danobservasi sebagai teknik pengumpulan data penelitian. Informan dalam penelitianini adalah para eksekutif di beberapa perusahaan multinasional di Jakarta, denganmasa jabatan lebih dari lima tahun. Secara umum, penelitian ini menunjukkanbahwa melalui komunikasi curhat yang mengacu pada teori CPM, setiap informanmelakukan manajemen informasi privat mereka. Namun sebelum menuju kepadakomunikasi curhat dan manajemen komunikasi privasi, para informanmenegaskan bahwa hal yang diutamakan ketika mereka ingin berbagi informasiprivat kepada orang lain adalah adanya sebuah kepercayaan. Dalam hal ini, tiapinforman pun memiliki kriteria yang berbeda mengenai apa saja hal-hal yangmembuat orang lain dapat dipercaya untuk mendengar keluh-kesah danmenyimpan dengan baik informasi yang ingin disampaikan oleh para informan. ABSTRACT Life within and around executives demands them to always have excellentappearance. Various important roles and huge responsibilities as chiefs ofcorporations make them often feel in need for other persons whom they can trustto open up and share private information that they have. Of course they need to bevery selective in separating information that they want to share to other persons,and the ones that they have to keep for themselves. This research focuses on theprocess of Self Disclosure based on rules and boundary within the whole basicassumption of Communication Privacy Management, and also trust. The term SelfDisclosure, in daily language is known as komunikasi curhat (curahan hati).Through communication privacy management, executives can understand andrealise that there is limitation in controlling their private access for them to remainfeeling secured and comfortable in communicating their private information toother persons so that their professional reputation is protected. Methodology ofthis research is qualitative with case study model, in-depth interviews andobservation as data collection and analysis. Respondents in this research areexecutives from several multinational companies in Jakarta, with each tenure ofmore than five years. In general this research shows that through confiding theirprivate information, as CPM theory, each respondent applied private informationmanagement. However, prior to confiding and applying their private informationmanagement, respondents confirmed that the most important factor that madethem confide to other persons was trust. With this regard, each respondent haddifferent criteria about what made them trust the other persons they confided toand that the other persons will keep securely the information that had beenshared. |
