Di negara demokratis, termasuk Indonesia, media diharapkan dapat menjadi pilar keempat demokrasi yang menggenapi trias politica. Tujuan mulianya yakni mengawasi jalannya pemerintahan yang dilaksanakan oleh Eksekutif, Legislatif, dan Yudikatif. Akan tetapi, media televisi yang notabene menggunakan frekuensi publik untuk siaran telah disisipi kepentingan politik tertentu. Kepentingan itu berasal dari ambisi pemilik modalnya yang ingin mencalonkan diri dalam Pemilihan Presiden (Pilpres) 2014 mendatang. Maka, independensi media televisi pun kini dipertanyakan terlebih saat media tersebut menyisipkan kepentingannya pada program-program tertentu. Metode yang digunakan dalam makalah ini adalah studi literatur. Makalah akan membahas bagaimana kondisi media televisi di Indonesia saat ini menjelang pilpres 2014, dan apa yang seharusnya dilakukan baik oleh pihak pemerintah maupun dari pihak media.
