ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of transport infrastructure, which consist of land and air transport, on the number of foreign tourist arrivals inIndonesia. The analysis is based on a panel data set of bilateral tourism flows between23 partner countries and Indonesia on 1995-2012. We employ a gravity framework toanalyze the tourism flow as a whole and also based on the origin country, in which wedivided into 4 groups of location, namely ASEAN, Asia, Europe and Pacific, to showsan impact of origin country to the tourism flow to Indonesia in regards of Indonesiatransport infrastructure. Based on the result, transport infrastructure has strongpositive impact to tourism sector in Indonesia. Land transport and air transport showsa strong impact on the flow of total foreign tourists in Indonesia. In details, roaddensity, which represent accessibility of tourism destination in the country, impact theflow of tourists from Europe and Pacific. Furthermore, the total number ofinternational airports in Indonesia, as a representation of the gateway to visitIndonesia, strongly impact the number of tourists in Indonesia, especially fromEurope and Pacific.
