[ABSTRAK Tesis ini membahas tentang peran edukasi pada museum Bahari di Jakarta dalam membentuk pemahaman pengunjung dan masyarakat mengenai fakta d=geografis dan sejarah bahwa Indonesia adalah negeri bahari. Museum adalah lembaga edukasi non-formal dan merupakan tepat yang paling tepat unutk membentuk identitas suatu komunitas dan bahkan suatu bangsa. Museum bahari idealnya adalah museum yang merepresentasikan kebaharian bangsa Indonesia yang telah terbentuk sejak masa lalu. Pengetahuan mengenai kebaharian Indonesia tersebut dikonstruksikan dengan menggunakan teori kinstruksivis dengan model pembelajaran active-learning. melalui pandangan konstruktivis, penelitian ini berusaha membentuk pengembangan model edukasi yang dapat meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat bahwa Indonesia adalah negeri bahari, Hasil peneltian berupa model edukasi yang diterapkan melalui pameran dan program puublik d Museum Bahari Jakarta. Beberapa saran juga disampiakan melalui tesis ini kepada pihak pengelola museum dan instu=itusi terkait lainnya dalam rangka mengoptimalkan fungsi dan tanggung jawab Museum BahariJakarta sebagai lemabga edukasi non-formal di masyarakat. ABSTRACT This thesis discusses the role of education at the Maritime Museum in Jakarta toestablish an understanding to the visitor and the public that Indonesia is amaritime country both geographically and historically. Museum is a non-formaleducational institution and the most appropriate place to establish the identity ofa community or even a nation. Ideally, maritime museum is a museum thatrepresents the identity of Indonesia as a maritime nation, as it is existed in thetimeline of Indonesian history. The knowledge about Indonesian maritime isconstructed using the constructivism theory with active-learning model education.Through constructivism theory, this thesis is trying to develop an education modelthat can elevate the understanding of the visitor about Indonesia as a maritimecountry. The result is the education model that applied on exhibitions and publicprograms in Maritime Museum Jakarta. There are some recommendation forMaritime Museum and other related institutions to optimize the function and theresponsibility of the Maritime Museum in Jakarta as a non-formal educationalinstitution
