[ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji tema pada salah satu puisi modern Korea yaitu puisi kitbal karya YooChihwan ditinjau dari diksi dan latar historis. Yoo Chihwan merupakan penyair puisi modern Korea yangterkenal sampai dengan saat ini. Karya Yoo Chihwan adalah puisi Kitbal. Puisi Kitbal merupakan salah satupuisi pertama yang dibuat oleh Yoo Chihwan pada tahun 1939 disaat Korea dijajah oleh Jepang. Kondisi bangsaKorea pada saat itu dan harapan bangsa Korea terhadap bangsanya digambarkan dalam puisi Kitbal. YooChihwan menggunakan diksi yang sederhana namun memiliki makna yang dalam serta menggunakan simboldalam puisinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dan mengacu pada pendapat ahli daripenelian terdahulu mengenai analisis puisi Kitbal. Melalui analisis diksi dan latar historis, dapat diketahui temapuisi Kitbal karya Yoo Chihwan adalah tema patriotisme. Yoo Chi Hwan is a modern Korean poet that famous until now.His poem which will be examine in this paper is Kitbal. Kitbal is one of the first poem made by Yoo Chihwan in1939 when Korea was colonized by Japan. Condition at the time of the Korean people and Korean people?sexpectations of the nation depicted in the Kitbal poem. Yoo Chihwan uses simple diction but has a deepmeaning and uses symbol in his poem. This paper used qualitative research methods and refers to the expertopinion of previous research on the analysis of Kitbal poem.
