| [Artikel ini membahas kondisi moral para kuli pribumi yang bekerja di perkebunan Deli Maatschappij di SumateraTimur. Penelitian dalam artikel ini adalah kualitatif yang mendeskripsikan tentang kondisi moral para kuli pribumi yangberasal dari Jawa, selama mereka bekerja di perusahaan perkebunan Deli Maatschappij periode 1887 hingga 1890.Hasil dari penelit ian ini adalah adanya degradasi moral pada kuli Jawa di perkebunan Deli Maatschappij. Kuli Jawayang datang ke Deli bertujuan untuk mendapatkan kehidupan yang lebih baik namun yang terjadi para kuli Jawamenjadi gemar berfoya-foya, berjudi, dan datang ke pelacuran. Ketidakadilan yang diterima oleh para kuli Jawa daripara tuan perkebunan dan penderitaan tiada akhir yang mereka alami adalah alasan mengapa terjad i degradasi moraltersebut.;This article discusses about moral condition of the indigenous labors who moved from Java to East Sumatera and theywant to work in The Deli Maatschappij Farming. This is a qualitative study which explains about the moral condition oflabors from Java. The result of this study shows there is a moral degradation of Java Labours who worked in DeliMatschappij in year from 1887 to 1890. The javanese labors who came to Deli want to get the better future after theirlife in Java. The moral degradation looks from their attitude and habits as long as they work. They came intoprostitution and they spend their money for gambling and alcohol.
