 Abstrak

[Kursi batu merupakan produk dari budaya megalitik dari batu terdiri dari komponen alas dan sandaran. Di Sumatera Barat khususnya di wilayah Kabupaten Tanah Datar, kursi batu secara umum dinamakan dengan Medan nan Bapaneh, adapula dengan istilah balai batu, balai-balai, batu sandaran dan batu tagak. Di Kabupaten Tanah Datar dijumpai sejumlah kursi batu yang memiliki pola susunan yang membentuk huruf U, huruf L, garis lurus, segitiga, dan bulat. Di samping itu, kursi batu diindikasikan pula sebagai lembaga demokrasi awal di wilayah nagari di Minangkabau. Sistem matrilineal yang dianut oleh orang Minangkabau, menjadi kaum perempuan sebagai pemegang kekuasaan tertinggi. Namun, dalam penggunaan kursi batu, kaum laki-lakilah yang memegang kendali. Sehingga, adanya ketidakseimbangan kekuasaan perempuan dalam kehidupan matrilineal di Minangkabau. Bagaimanakah peranan kursi batu dalam kebudayaan Minangkabau
dan bagaimanakah kursi batu di kaji dalam perspektif gender?. Dalam tulisan ini berusaha melihat dan menggambarkan kursi batu dalam sistem matrilineal yang dipakai oleh masyarakat Minangkabau hingga saat ini.;Stone seat is a product of megalithic, culture of stone which consists of a base component and backrest. So there is a power imbalance in the lives of women in Minangkabau. How is the role of the stone seats in Minangkabau culture ad how the stone seats studied in the perspective of gender?.
