[ ABSTRAK Jurnal ini membahas pemikiran modern wanita Korea yang ditampakkan melalui tokoh ibu dan anakperempuannya bernama Chi-hon dalam novel berjudul Eommareul Butakhae karya Kyung Sook Shin. Tujuanpenelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pemikiran wanita Korea masa kini dalam menjalankan peranannya yangsudah tidak dibatasi lagi oleh prinsip Konfusianisme. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatifdengan desain deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa telah terjadi perubahan pemikiranwanita di Korea dari pola pemikiran yang tradisional dan terpaku pada aturan Konfusianisme ke arah yang lebihmodern yang dipengaruhi oleh pendidikan yang diperoleh serta perkembangan sosial yang dinamis dari masa kemasa. Tokoh ibu yang tumbuh di masa transisi perubahan sosial dari masa premodern menuju postmodernmemilih untuk berkorban menutupi segala kekurangannya dari anak-anaknya agar mereka dapat hidup lebih baikdaripada ibunya. Tokoh Chi-hon yang tumbuh di masa modern, telah sepenuhnya memiliki pemikiran yang lebihterbuka dan modern, bahkan dia telah memilih jalan hidupnya sendiri secara independen tanpa ada aturan tradisiyang mengikatnya. ABSTRACTThis journal is discussing about modern thought of Korean women for her life which is shown in EommareulButakhae novel by Kyung Sook Shin. In this novel, the researcher focus on two characters: a mother and herdaughter named Chi-hon. The purpose of this research is to know modern woman’s perspective in her societyroles. This research is qualitative descriptive. From this research, the researcher found that Korean women’sthought change has happened depend by her education and social dynamic become more modern withoutinfluence from Confucianism rule. The mother who grew up at transition decade between premodern andpostmodern, choose to hide her lack from her children so that her children can have better life than hers.Meanwhile Chi-hon who grew up at modern decade has been having modern thought and more open minded,moreover she choose her own way independenly without influence from any tradition rules., This journal is discussing about modern thought of Korean women for her life which is shown in EommareulButakhae novel by Kyung Sook Shin.
