Abstrak
Kehadiran Art Deco di Hindia Belanda merupakan sebuah periode yang sangat penting bagi perkembangan arsitektur di Hindia Belanda. Art Deco yang berasal dari Eropa secara perlahan-lahan masuk ke Indonesia dan diterima baik oleh para arsitek Indonesia maupun arsitek Belanda yang berada di Indonesia. Salah satu arsitek Belanda yang mengusung gaya ini adalah F.J.L Ghijsels. Sebagai arsitek besar, Ghijsels berusaha menuangkan ciri khasnya dalam setiap karyanya. Tulisan ini berusaha untuk menelaah karakteristik Art Deco F.J.L Ghijsels berdasarkan salah satu karyanya yaitu gedung Koninklijke Paketvaart Maatschappij (KPM) yang terletak di Jalan Merdeka Timur No. 5 Jakarta Pusat. Karakteristik F.J.L Ghijsels akan dibandingkan dengan ciri khas Art Deco yang ada pada umumnya sehingga akan ditemukan bahwa terdapat beberapa karakteristik Art Deco F.J.L Ghijsels yang menonjol seperti pemilihan warna dan molding.
......The presence of Art Deco in Dutch East Indies was an important period to the development of architecture in Dutch East Indies. Art Deco that came from the Europe slowly got in to Indonesia and got accepted by Indonesian architects and Dutch architects who lived in Indonesia. One of Dutch architects who used this style is F.J.L Ghijsels. As a succes architect, Ghijsels tried to show his characteristics in his every works. This paper tries to analize F.J.L Ghijsels? Art Deco characteristics based on one of his works which is Koninklijke Paketvaart Maatschappij (KPM) building in Jalan Merdeka Timur No. 5 Central Jakarta. F.J.L Ghijsels? characteristics will be compared to characteristic of Art Deco in general and we will find the fact that there are a few characteristics of F.J.L Ghijsels? Art Deco that stood out which are his choices of colors and his molding technic.
