Abstrak
The research is done by using qualitative research. The writer discusses five type of language functions based on the theory proposed by Finocchiaro and Brumfit, such as persona functional, interpersonal function, referential function, and imaginative function. The data is taken from Jakarta Post, and this is a qualitative research. The data are 4 articles of economics. In this study, the most dominant type of language function id referential function. It means most of the content of the news is used mostly for sharing information. The writer also advice English teacher to be able to teach the student using articles (economical, history, sports, medical, etc0 so the students can be enriched with kinds of terms in their English vocabulary.
