Tiongkok adalah negara dengan kebudayaan yang kaya. Salah satu tradisinya adalah pemberian nama Tiongkok. Masyarakat peranakan Tiongkok di Indonesia juga masih mempertahankan tradisi ini, sehingga mereka selain memiliki nama dengan menggunakan Bahasa Indonesia, mereka juga memiliki nama Tiongkok. Banyak hal yang dipertimbangkan dalam memberikan nama Tiongkok seperti harapan, waktu kelahiran, shio, dan lain-lain. Selain itu, nama Tiongkok haruslah juga terdengar indah, mudah diingat dan bermakna baik. Mereka terus memiliki nama Tiongkok sebagai penanda bahwa mereka adalah keturunan orang Tiongkok.
