Abstract
ABSTRAK
Manga sebagai bacaan yang dianggap sederhana sebenarnya memiliki genre tertentu yang memerlukan pemikiran lebih mendalam untuk memahaminya, salah satunya yakni Monster karya Urasawa Naoki. Hal menarik dalam manga ini adalah cerita dengan tokoh protagonis berkebangsaan Jepang namun berlatar tempat di Jerman. Untuk memahami secara mendalam, skripsi ini membahas unsur-unsur intrinsik yang meliputi alur, latar, tokoh dan penokohan, serta kesatupaduan unsur-unsur tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa manga ini membentuk cerita yang realistis, koheren, dan plausibel, dengan mempertanyakan mengenai hakikat kemanusiaan seperti: Apakah penjahat sebaiknya mati saja? Masalah lain yang turut diangkat yakni pentingnya pendidikan anak yang tepat dan benar.
ABSTRACT
Manga, widely known as an easy read book, has certain genre that needs deeper understanding to digest the story, such as Monster by Urasawa Naoki. Point of interest in this manga is the protagonist is a Japanese yet set in another country Germany. To understand deeper, this research covers intrinsic components such as plot, setting, character and characterization also the corelation between the components. The unity of components creates a realistic, coherent and plausible story, in which question humanity: would?ve it been better if a criminal die? The story also stresses on the importance of proper early education for children.
