ABSTRAKPerspektif merupakan salah satu elemen terpenting dalam sebuah film. The Male Gaze, yang merupakan sudut pandang atau perspektif laki-laki terhadap elemen-elemen yang ada dalam film, telah menjadi hal yang lumrah dalam film-film Hollywood. Hal tersebut terjadi karena mayoritas orang-orang penting dibalik pembuatan film adalah laki-laki. Lebih jauh lagi, saat ini film adalah salah satu jenis media yang paling berpengaruh. Oleh karena itu, makalah ini mencoba untuk menganalisis penggambaran Male Gaze dalam The Wolf of Wall Street, sebuah film oleh Martin Scorsese yang dirilis pada tahun 2013, melalui pengansingan terhadap karakter-karakter wanitanya. Makalah ini menggunakan definisi Male Gaze dari Laura Mulvey sebagai landasan teori dalam menganalisis scene, karakter, monolog, dan dialog dalam film tersebut.Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa The Wolf of Wall Street sangatlah dipengaruhi oleh Male Gaze karena karakter-karakter perempuan yang ada dalam film ini hanya berperan sebagai bawahan dari karakter laki-laki.
ABSTRACTPerspective is one of the most important elements of film. The Male Gaze, which is male perspective or point of view towards film?s elements, has become a common thing in Hollywood movie. It happens because film makers are disproportionately male. Furthermore, today film is one of the most influential forms of media. For this reason, this research attempts to analyze the depiction of the Male Gaze in The Wolf of Wall Street, a 2013 film by Martin Scorsese, trough the relegation of its female characters. This research is using Laura Mulvey?s definition of the Male Gaze as a theoretical framework in examining the scenes, characters, monologues, and dialogues of the film.The result of the research concludes that The Wolf of Wall Street is heavily influenced by the Male Gaze since the female characters role are diminished and they only serve as subordinate for the male characters. |
