ABSTRACT Research on the study of zooxanthellae in hard coral colony which is infected byBlack Band Disease (BBD) and White Syndrome (WS) has been conducted onAugust, 5--10th 2015 at Pahawang Besar Island and Kelagian Kecil Island,Lampung. The research objectives were to invent coral colony which infected byBBD and WS based on genus and lifeform, to count the abundance ofzooxanthellae in infected hard coral colony, and to observe the environmentalfactors which affect disease by the abundance of zooxanthellae. Research wasconducted by collecting 2 cm2 coral fragments in one, five, and ten meter depths.Zooxanthellae expelled from coral fragments by heating up to 85oC for 20minutes. Results showed the coral colony which infected by BBD and WS werefrom the genus of Montipora, Pachyseris, and Echinopora. BBD infected-coralcolony showed higher reduction of zooxanthellae?s abundance, compared to WSinfected-coral colony. Based on PCA and CA, results showed that BBD isaffected by the current direction and velocity, DO, temperature, and lightintensity; while WS is affected by the current direction and velocity, DO, pH,nitrates, salinity, and phosphates. |
