ABSTRACT In this world, it is a common thing that there are some people who are more powerful than others. This paper focuses more on how power relation is seen in daily conversation and how it affects Grices Maxims rules. The corpus of this paper is Fifty Shades of Grey. This paper is made by analyzing dialogues between two main characters of the novel. Previous researches have debated whether Grices Maxims theory is functional in daily conversation or not. How- ever, the result of this paper shows that people who are more powerful have bigger tendencies to break Grices Maxims . By writing this paper, the writer expects that people have larger in- sights of how Grices Maxims can contribute in daily conversation since it can help people to choose the person who is more powerful than the other person. |
