ABSTRAK Jender pada umumnya dikonstruksi oleh masyarakat. Seringkali, masyarakat mendorong orang-orang sekitar untuk melakukan sesuatu yang dapat diterima oleh keyakinan mereka. Dengan demikian, televisi memproduksi berbagai acara yang bisa menggambarkan hubungan jender dan bagaimana masyarakat mengkonstruksinya. How I Met Your Mother adalah salah satu acara televisi terkenal yang diproduksi sepanjang tahun 2005 sampai 2014. Acara televisi ini cukup menggambarkan masalah jender dalam salah satu karakter. Jurnal ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakter pendukung, Robin Scherbatsky, dan bagaimana cara beliau membangun jender dalam dirinya sendiri berdasarkan latar belakang keluarganya dan beberapa perubahan yang muncul dari perspektif Judith Butler (1990). Untuk melengkapi analisis, jurnal ini juga menggunakan perspektif Bell Hooks (2006) dan teori patriarkinya. Tidak hanya Judith Butler dan Bell Hooks, penulis juga menambahkan peneliti lain untuk mendukung analisis. Hasil analisis dari jurnal ini menemukan bahwa How I Met Your Mother mencoba mendekonstruksi teori jender dan membuktikan bahwa hal itu dapat terpengaruh oleh patriarki. Penulis juga menemukan bahwa acara televisi ini menekankan tentang bagaimana kekuatan yang dimiliki kaum perempuan dapat mengarah ke kebingungan dan kegelisahan. ABSTRACT Gender is mostly constructed by society. Usually, society pushes people into doing something that society can accept. Thus, television produces variety of shows that somehow can depict gender relations and how society constructs them. How I Met Your Mother is one of the most famous TV shows around 2005-2014 that portrays gender issue in one of the characters. This paper aims to analyze the supporting character, Robin Scherbatsky, from the way she construct her own gender based on her family background and some changes that appears later from the perspective of Judith Butler (1990). To complete the analysis, this paper is also uses the perspective of Bell Hooks (2006) and her patriarchy theory to analyze more about Robin and her relationship with her father. Not only Judith Butler and Bell Hooks, writer also adds another researchers to support the analysis. At the end, this article finds some analysis that How I Met Your Mother deconstructs gender theory and how it could get affected from patriarchy. It also emphasizes more about how women's powers are able to confuse and drive them to insecurities. |
